Default Turbo too big??

Ok, so my little 50trim turbo has some shaft play and I know i'm going to have to buy another turbo for my "big" motor build. I am currently going to have a stock internal LS/Vtec with a Type R head and was just wanting to see if a Gt45 T4 turbo would be too big for it? I am thinking it would be, but just don't want to buy a turbo for my set up now and then buy one for my other build i'm doing. The specs on the turbo are

Intake :4 inch
Outlet: 2.5 inch
Compressor trim: .70 ar
Compressor Wheel diameter: 66.71 /84.20
Turbine wheel diameter : 63.56 /73.60
Exhaust trim: 1.00ar
Turbine flange type: t4 flange
Downpipe flange type : 3.25" v band flange
Cooling type: oil cooled only
Twin scroll turbine housing (quicker response then single exhaust outlet )
Horsepower rating: 400-600hp+

I know i'm only looking at a little over 300whp if that on my LS/Vtec turbo i'm doing right now, but will this spool super SLOW or what would happen? Any help on this would help greatly. Thank you in Advance.

Lol, ok ok.. just making sure, so what turbo would you all recommend? I am going to have to upgrade my 50trim anyways, it has some terrible shaft play... When I do my other LS/Vtec I am wanting 450-500whp and don't wanna have to buy another turbo after this one.. I will probably just buy another 50trim turbo to run on this set up and save for another one when I get close to finishing my other build.

upgrade to something like a sc61/gt35r and see what the spools like in comparison to your 50 trim... and then see if you want to go bigger. I actually kinda miss my smaller turbo for how quick it was to spool. I guess what im trying to say is if its an all out drag car and you plan on having a 7500-11000 rpm "powerband" thats one thing, but on the street youll have minivans showing you taillights until you spool and then all youll do is spin tires.

aren't the sc61's and gt35r turbo's oil cooled and water cooled turbo's?? I don't really know if I like the water cooled thing, but yet I haven't really messed with one either. How hard are they hook up and everything? and I definately understand what you're saying bout the minivans thing lol.. I'll stick with a smaller turbo.

That must be a Master Power or some other type of turbo. Definately not a Garrett GT45. A REAL GT45 measures 80.8mm/108.0mm on the compressor side. That's more like a 67mm unit. Not sure where the GT45 name comes from for that unit. For 300whp it's still bigger than you need but it will work

Why not just get another 50 trim...you have a STOCK INTERNAL block. Running anything larger like the SC61 or the ridiculous turbo you originally posted would do ONE thing: Add lag. You aren't going to see any more power by using it...just more lag. Keep that in mind

I would just get another 50trim. They are relatively cheap.

gt45 is a jornal bearing turbo, if it were a gt45R it would be a dual ball bearing turbo chra water and oil I agree on the measurmnets though a little off lol..

My motor I have right now is Stock Interal, but I am building one on the side also, this is just for me to drive around until my other is done. I don't wanna have to buy one turbo and then turn around and have to buy another one. TheShodan has already pointed me in a direction that i'm going to go with. I am going to save and get a t3 60-1 turbo. Thank you all for the replies.

That's understandable. TheShodan was certainly the right guy to ask in this situation. The 60-1 is a decent choice and a great bargain considering their cost:power ratio.

Oh yeah, he definately knows his stuff and is very respectable. I was very pleased to have the 3 options pointed out to me and I definately know i'm going to be in the right direction with the advice I had got.
