And I wouldn't use a precision turbo if it was given to me

D16z6 engine,

Looking for around 250-300 hp.

Building a custom tubular manifold.

Reflashing stock ecu for tuning.

Just looking for information on the turbochargers in general. I really like the looks of the kPa Turbo and price. Just looking for some more feedback.

Won't make that much on a stock bottom end

225 is the safe limit for stock rods.

I've heard of about 90% of the turbocharger companies in 2 hemispheres. KPA turbo is not one I'm familiar with. any links to what they produce?

Kpaturbos.com
Only 3 models so far

Their main production is modifying Garrett units with aerospace grade angular contact ceramic ball bearings. Apparently they control tolerances and oil film thickness to a minimum to increase response

Their 2863 is a direct 2860 replacement with a forged 7075 billet wheel with a smaller hub, improved aerodynamics and a 63mm extended tip compressor wheel

It also features a 713 income turbine wheel with thinner profile blades

I gotcha. I've found a nicer way of doing that to the internals of these than risking the use of ceramic bearing systems. I'm still skiddish from back in the day when they would disintegrate by cracking over time.

So they're at least using a better grade aluminum.. But to say that their life expectancy is 2 times that of steel (which wears much more evenly than the ceramic), that's a stretch in my book.

Hell, the bearings BETTER be rated for over 200,000rpms.. Would you expect less?

It is interesting reading nonetheless.

The op has changed his first post to something even more vague and pointless

Mac, I would expect the bearings to be rated like that, especially given that these turbos are on the smaller end and will have higher shaft speeds in the first place.

I would say I'd utilizing full ceramic bearings that a pre-turbo oil filter would be required, given that the slightest bit of oil contamination could kill/prematurely wear the bearings races.

I am curious about that compressor wheel, as it would be perfect for my needs as opposed to going with a 2871.
