Cakelike, wasn't it? The only PITA is finding snap ring pliers small enough... or in the case of the last Holset I built, BIG enough.

haha, good stuff. I am having that problem right now, rebuilding a straight T04B or something to that affect, haven't really figured out exactly what it is. But it is a beast.

I ground the tips of a set of needle nose pliers for the Holset's circlip that retains the thrust washer. Still required a LOT of weight to keep the pliers from slipping out of the holes, had to lean on it with my full 140lbs of awkward fury. The circlips that retain the bearings, however, are pleasantly bigger than T3 or the ****-in-the-***-miniature endless succession of IHI RHB5's people bring me. Those are quite simple to get out.

LOL... I used tiny screw drivers grinded the tip to make it fit.. was kinda hard but kinda got the hang of it.

Oh, yeah, completely forgot - I get most all my rebuild kits from TEC in Golden, CO, (800) 950-TURBO (yes, I realize the O doesn't do anything, but if I told you 950-TURB you might think I said TURD, you turds).

I've got a few Holset kits elsewhere, not entirely sure I'm happy with the service at this moment... there's some confusion, which could very possibly be on my end, so I'll withhold their identity until it gets sorted out.

So what do all you guys do about balancing? Just mark the wheel shaft and nut before taking it off? I rebuilt the t3 turbo on my daily driver civic coupe 2 years ago with a kit from turbo city and it was not too bad. I did not know anything about balancing back then since their kit advertised "with basic hand tools". The turbo leaks a little oil when the car sits a while but does not smoke and otherwise has been going strong 2 years with no problems completely unbalanced .
