Turbo Question; Ls vs Gsr Transmission
I am swapping a b18 ls motor into my 4th gen civic. I I basically have everything but the transmission.(most of the turbo components, exedy stage 1 clutch, 4500 injectors, msd, guages, shift linkages, ex)
Now, I heard that an Ls Transmission is more suitable for turbocharging aposed to a Gsr Transmission... Is this true and if it is, why?

you will never get a straight forward answer on this. It also depends on your demands. People with say a b16 is better because shorter gears = quicker acceleration. And a LS tranny has too long of gears. I think a GSR is the way to go, its in between the ls and b16, perfect for all around

what youve got to do is use the gear ratios properly, you don t want to finish the quarter just after shifting to 5th, figure out your estimated mph in the quarter and then explore you options with gear sets and final drives.

Everything you have heard people saying about the LS transmission is wrong. Longer gears are not better for boost, technically it keeps your turbo spooled for "longer" but that just means you're accelerating slower. For a stock LS with a stock LS rev limit, the LS transmission is acceptable. If you do not have a transmission right now I would be on the hunt for a GSR transmission, they have perfectly spaced gears for great acceleration, but not too tight that you just blast through each gear spinning like a ****.

im going gsr tranny in my ls turbo also. honestly, id love to have gsr 1-4 and an ls 5th gear. gsr tranny (redlining at 7 grand as per stock ls motor) tops out at like 53 in 2nd, 75 in 3rd, 99 in 4th and 130 in 5th. it supposedly also cruises at like 4200 ish at like 80mph in 5th gear. this is just a little higher than id like, but it should make the car a lil bit faster. i couldnt fathom a b16 tranny on there

The 4000 RPM drone does get a pinch annoying on the highway, but it is no big deal, and better than a B16 tranny atleast. I can't tell you how much more fun my car is to drive with the GSR trans vs. the LS trans though.

Well what about this. What kind of tranny would be needed for the 91 integra ls. I forget what the linkage is??? Im wanting longer gears as well for that road racing and that 1st gear holding to like 30-35 miles and hr.

unless you feel like doing a cable->hydro conversion, stick with either the 91 ls stock tranny, or the tranny off a b17 gsr

Re: (vtec99)
ok since this thread is still alive, i have a real short vid of my ls with gsr trans going from 0-90..its not boosted yet, but if you watch the speedo and the tach it can give an idea of shift points and whatnot.
