Default Turbo manifold leak at head ...

For some reason I have a leak right in between the manifold and the head and the gasket is from my previous header which is almost new so I am suspecting an uneven mating surface on the manifold - any suggestions? I was thinking of using Copperseal but will that hold up in this case without leaking?

I just noticed that it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to find a good aftermarket exhaust / turbo gasket for the H22 but I did come across http://store.summitracing.com/...w=sku at summitracing - seems like this would work for my situation from what they say so I ordered one.

Will let you guys know how it works hehe.

I used the gasket that came with my ebay header (header wasn't that bad, nicely made and actually performed well) and it failed on me the next week. Put my Honda OEM header gasket back on and it sealed fine.

not sure why you would want to [freak] with something that is just fine. in all my years of doing this bullshit, OEM exhuast manifold gaskets work the best. (not used 5 year old gaskets, but NEW OEM gaskets...)

LOL, well it was too late when I discovered that the oem exhaust gasket would work fine because I had already ordered the performance one. BTW, it bothers me because it seems like the leak has got worse now and btw it was some cheap gasket off some cheap header I currently have on there right now... can't wait to get the new one

I was lookin at the oem gasket (part no. 4 in the diagram) - I noticed in the parts list it's called "Nippon Leakless" - does this mean it has those raised rings around the outlets so prevent leakage on warped surfaces?? Just wondering...

The manifold is probably warped, a gasket won't help and its going to end up putting stress on the manifold, get the manifold sanded down.

Yeah I was thinking it might have a slight warp... but before I take it anywhere to get resurfaced, etc. I decided to give this Percy's Carbon XX Gasket a shot since they do make it for the H22 and also they have nothing but good reviews all over the net.

Maybe it will work - I will keep you guys posted!

Why waste your time buying a new gasket when it is so easy to take the manifold off and put a straight edge across the flange surface to check for warpage.

???

Sorry but a stock gasket, or even copper spray should work. If you having a tough time with a seal 99% of the time its the manifold.

If I'm not mistaken "nippon leakless" is the actual manufacturer of the gasket which honda uses as their genuine oem gaskets.

Did that and yeah its warped very slightly so I took it to a machine shop to get it resurfaced - get it done right huh?

Got the manifold back and I still used a sheet of Percy's Carbon XX Gasket material to MAKE an exhaust gasket (was a pain because they do not make a gasket for the H22A and no other performance people do either ).

Anyway if you guys ever seen that Percy's stuff, it looks like it would burn right up because all it looks like is some thin metal with felt on both sides BUT let me tell you, this stuff is the best exhaust gasket I have ever seen or used so far!! Right from start up and the initial heat cycle, the gasket sealed perfect and works GREAT!

Crazy thing about it is that it's rated to 2000 F which I believe also. I also came across links on the net where guys were tryin to get this stuff to melt and burn and it REFUSED! Did not even smoke!

UPDATE : Well, it started to leak like a week ago and slowly started gettin worse - I simply can't believe that the Percy's stuff failed on me! Well anyway, I was like f**k it and ordered the OEM 3 layer metal gasket from Honda and now it has zero leaks - I am somehow certain this is the last time I mess with that gasket.

OEM Exhaust Manifold Gasket for boost - just learned that haha
