Turbo LS or GSR
I did some searches but nobody really gave straight answers from what i read.
Should i turbo a ls or a gsr?
Gonna buy the motor and build it first, then drop into a 94 up teg.
I see the ls motors are a lot cheaper. but what will be better for boost, v-tec or no v-tec?
I have heard different things from different people.
Now i want you guys opinions.

Impossible to answer that question without knowing your performance goals & budget limits. Daily driver? Weekend racer?

NOT daily driver!
Just a fun weekend car.
Goal-300-350 whp
Not in a hurry to build. I'm gonna piece the motor together. Just wanna do it right.

Re: Turbo LS or GSR (evad)
Well if you are gonna build it then you are able to choose your compression. This means your choice is V-TEC or no V-TEC.....hmmmmm...tough one.
the reason why some idiots say you shouldn't turbo a GSR engine is because of the 10:1 compression. this leads to easier detonation and less safety margin on a tune.
I say go with the GSR block since the Intake manifold and head are so much better then the LS blocks. Then get pistons with around 9:1-9.5 compression. This is just my opinion but you can do lower compression or higher...it's really your choice....read up and make a decision. Either way since you are building get the VTEC head

Re: Turbo LS or GSR (adseguy)
That's what i was thinking. I've heard some people say that you should go ls cause without v-tec you will be in boost longer. Which they say is better. Some argue that the gsr motor is a very good platform to start with. I dunno, do i need v-tec? Is the ls worth the higher torque to start with?

...that's like saying longer gears are better because you're in boost longer...
if you really want to build a block please read up! None including myself is going to spoon feed you info that can be found using the search button. Not trying to be mean, but it sounds like you need to learn a lot

Who the hell told you this?
I think they heard the BS about LS trans being better for boost, but were too dumb to know the difference and figured they were talking about the motor itself. Either way, go kick them in the junk for being useless.

Dont forget to pull your waste gate hose off so you can hit max boost.
Seriously though, do some searching. This topic is discussed in so many aspects you could do a research paper on it with the information discussed about it in the past week I bet.
If you think LS will keep you in boost longer, Id stay away from a turbo setup and read for a year or two.
GL!

Re: Turbo LS or GSR (jDMJeRk)
Thanks for the flames guys! Yeah i'm new to the boost scene. I've had nothing but all motor set ups in my 4 hondas i've had. Figured i would try something new. I'll do some searching and reading and figure this one out on my own. Thanks for the comments.

Re: Turbo LS or GSR (evad)
GSR all the way. No doubt. VTEC is the *****! Very noticable gains in high rpms.
LS longer gears eh..But shorter RPM range? Ever figured? research a little more..

Re: Turbo LS or GSR (synik)
well, if your goal is only 300-350...i would just get a cheap ls swap, sleeve it throw in forged rods and pistons and turn up the boost. with the money you save by buying a ls swap you can spend that in beefing up the internals easily to handle 300-350 whp. but if you want more room for improvement and go crazy later...gsr.

for STREET only i would take a b18b over a b16

Re: Turbo LS or GSR (Haberdasher)
I guess i'm just having a hard time deciding wether or not i NEED v-tec on a turbo set up. Is it worth the extra money all the way around? For a street car?

Re: (h22boy)
yeah but i'm gonna build it, so that doesn't matter
So let's see if i got this right so far...
Don't NEED v-tec
V-tec is preference
GSR is better for later upgrades
LS is cheaper for all i want to do
But i should stop being a ***** and just go with the GSR

Re: (h22boy)
Nah LS engines just have lower static CR. GSR can always make more power at the same boost level. On pump gas it's easier to ping on the higher CR motor...
