Default Turbo kit labor?

Just wen to Pride Performance in Keensburg Nj and gave the guy a **** load of stuff to get a price check on. I ask him how much it would be to put a straight line specialties .57 trim kit on my ls del sol, and he responded "it should take 10-14 hours because these bolt on kits are usually never bolt on, and also the sls kit doesnt come with an intercooler bracket so i would need to make a custom one to place on your car. The total cost should be around $1,000 in labor." Do you guys think this is around the price every professional place charges?

What is "a **** load of stuff?" It depends on all the work they are doing, but if you have a full kit and youre going to a good shop $1000 is ok

He probably thinks its a ebay kit considering 95% of the cars on b20vtec (NY area forum) have ebay kits- The poor shop if probably flooded with people who need ebay kits installed.

Realistically a Full professional install should be 5 hours tops-

Remove intake system and header
drop/tap oil pan
install turbo/manifold
weld DP to test flange
install intercooler
install piping
oil fittings ect

I would say that its 5 hours tops for a professional- It took me about 8 hours total for my last install, but I go VERY VERY slow and make sure everything is 100%

Its really not all that hard to install a turbo kit. Yet it did take me about 3 nights to complete when I first did it. If your good with a welder I suggest doing it yourself. Not having to pay for labor means you can buy more goodies

I got a quote from a shop in houston and they quoted me just over 1k for install and tune. I had all the parts needed for the install so I decided to just do it myself. Almost done so far. I just need to tap the oil pan and run the oil lines and I'm done.

That tune alone, is already about $350-500 depending on system and additional sensors...

You can install it yourself, and maybe you should tune it yourself too. Fabricate your own turbo kit too (why buy brand name ****), and you are golden. Homemadeturbo style.

$1000 for installed and tune is a bargain...

Ill agree with you that a grand for an install and a tune is a good deal! Essentially a turn key package. But 10-14 hours for a shop to install a turbo kit ehhhh

Just about every place I looked to get one installed said it would be about a 1000.00 bucks. That's what prompted me to try and do it myself with a help of a friend.

Yea im def. going to just do it myself. I just dont want to be stuck if the IC pipes dont f***ing line up. As far as mounting the intercooler, do i need to do a custom bracket?

$1000 in labor alone to install a kit is ridiculous IMO, especially for your chasis, motor, and the kit you have.

I don't know how SLS builds their I/C's, but typically a quick female-threaded weld-on on each endtank takes care of it.
