Turbo INSTALLED! What now? (videos starting on pg. 2)
So, I FINALLY got my turbo installed on my car and about to do the very first start up on a base map to get it the tuner . A few concerns and final thoughts before I do so though. I have read some where to pull the spark plug wires and crank the engine a few times to get oil to the turbo first and check for leaks... I have done a compression check on the cylinders and they're a perfect 185 across the board (B16A3) so I know the engine is good... I'm not ready to mess up my engine, much less the good money I invested in doing this set-up the right way just because I over looked something or didn't prep it properly... THanks!!!

i say fire it up. hondas build oil pressure in like .2 seconds. your turbo will be fine. its barely spinning at idle anyways.

Re: Turbo INSTALLED! What now?
I just primed it and had to jump the battery for a sec(has been sitting for a few month while building so...). After that, I just cranked it while hooked up to my laptop and it fired up w/ no problems whatsoever. Idles slightly below 1K... just needs a tune now. A bit of "burning" in the turbo but I understand that is normal though. It's a brand new Garret .57 trim. This is my first build and I'm friggin' excited about getting it tuned now! :D

I don't have a turbo timer so after running the turbo hard and cooling down, how long should you wait to turn off the car? or if just daily driving w/o pushing the car, how long?

sounds good, just wasn't sure if there was an exceptionally long minimium amount of time need or not... One more thing too... ARP head studs... Looking to get anywhere between 250-300whp out of this build... Absolute must have or no?

If you have already built the motor and everything then I wouldn't worry too much about it if you are just looking to get 250-300whp, but they would be a must have for high boost and everything.

it's a bone stock B16... Not built... Did you mean "built" as in putting the turbo components on the car?

Re: Turbo INSTALLED! What now?
ahh, ok.. Yeah I didn't read the whole first post, I just went through the different post and seen one where you said it was your first build, but yeah if it is a bone stock b16 then your stock head bolts will be fine. Make sure you get a good tune, I had a turbo'd b16 in my Del Sol, piston rings blew so my motor went down, it's ok though... I am doing an LS/Vtec now . You should have some fun with yours , just wish mine would have lasted more than a week and a half. Hope to see some pics of the car and everything soon .

Re: Turbo INSTALLED! What now?
Finally got the car on a Dyno today and man was it fun!!! Car was put on an extremely conservative tune (3.5-4psi) by Mike Jones @ CSW. I learned quite a bit today along w/ a friend or two.
The most the car put to the crank was 236HP (again @ only 3.5-4psi) with a conservative/rich tune on 91 octane on a 5psi spring. The turbo is good for up to 400+ hp and next session I am looking to get at least 30+ more HP w/ a boost controller, a little more time and use of all 5psi if not a stiffer spring...
Currently the car sits @ 227HP for a solid, fun little "nothin' special" DD... Mike has a video of the car on the Dyno so I'll post it up as soon as I get my hands on it...

Re: Turbo INSTALLED! What now?
Sorry, guess I wasn't thinking... I'm using a Muetek Manifold. I picked it up for $109.00 off of ebay. I wanted somethings that would have the optimal WG opening like an inline Pro manifold but w/o the price and the Meutek manifold fit the bill, ESPECIALLY at $109.00 shipped. Eventually I'll move to a Ramhorn but only after the block is built... Only God knows when that'll be... I need a boost controller to up the boost now. I wanna' push it up to 8-9psi. On a bone stock B16 w/ a Garret T3/T40E, how much boost would be safe for a reliable DD? I think 3.5-4psi is waaay low (not even as quick as the new V6 camaros!). Thoughts?

Re: Turbo INSTALLED! What now?
8-9 PSI should be good. It all depends on the CFM flow. Stock honda blocks have crap rings that go first. I'd sit at 7-8 personally until you build it. Just do things slowly & surely. Once you get the block built with the right fuel/ignition combo, tuning will be your new hobby!
