Turbo Install Pics!!!!: 18G onto B18C1 in my 91 hatch (Dial-up beware)
This weekend, Jeff C. and I installed the turbo on my hatch. The install went pretty well considering that it was our first time and we had to fab all the piping. I'm running an AFC and 450s for fuel. The car runs like a raped ape..traction is a problem until 3rd gear with my 205/40/17s.
Overall I'm very pleased. At 7.8psi the turbo spools almost instantly and pulls strong all the way to 8 grand. I'll try to get some pictures of the car cleaned up with the bumper back on soon.
Here's what we started with: 166 tire melting horsepower.
All stripped down.
Slight chassis modification required.
Test fitting/oil pan removal.
It's gonna be a tiiite fit.
Oddly enough this part wasn't in the Helm's manual.
Passenger's side intercooler piping
Flow-bench proven piping bend.
Gotta make room.
For reference, Jeff C is 9ft tall.
My CARB exempt, emissions approved exhaust.
Oil drain/downpipe
Room? What room?
Fine.

is that an EGT probe going in the 3rd cyl on that greddy manifold? Is it already predrilled for you?

I'm thinking about dumping the exhaust shortly after the turbo too. Whats it sound like? A dentist drill? And theres no fear of burning up exhaust valves right?

It sounds like a $500 winter beater, but drives like a $30,000 sports car. No risk of burning exhaust valves; turbo keeps the heat up there.
Could you elaborate on burning exhaust valves? I've never heard of that before.
Thanks for the comments!

Mine's actually not loud at all. A buddy of mine ran open DP on his Drag 3 '00 Si and it was VERY rowdy..you can actually hear yourself think, listen to the radio, and carry on a conversation in my car. I'll probably sell my catback and leave it this way for a while. I love it.

awesome man! couple questions:
1) did you weld the piping yourself? and the bends, just pieces of mandrel pipe cut up?
2) what intercooler is that? and were you able to fit that behemoth under the stock bumper?

The intercooler is an XS Engineering Sylvia core. It dosent look that big with the bumper on though.

My car was never loud, especially with open down pipe. Those state troopers never said a thing.
The core is 20x11x3. We had to take the cutting wheel to the bumper to make room..it fits though.

The xs core is 24x11x3 and is one of the most efficient ic's available. That's the one I use on all of my custom turbo kits.
