Turbo Honda Vibration Battle
I am wonder if anyone has attempted to decrease the vibrations that occur from building high horsepower hondas. Although the noises are expected has there been a thread of anyone totally modifying there car to prevent vibration? And yes I have searched with little success.
I have avid mounts on the left and right of my del sol and the stock mount with a poly bushing in the rear and my floor board vibrates.
What modifications have people made? Has anyone removed there interior and put in rubber washers behind bolts???

I have been thinking about the same thing. I have been thinking about rubber sheet cut and applied between the cross member and body. I have played with the idea of adding a frame dampener and mount dampener similar to that used on older V6 mounts and oddessy subframes. This thread just might motivate me to do it.

someone has bound to have done something like this. 300+ horsepower Honda are capable of outrunning super cars out there (porsche, corvette etc.) but we have never found a way to improve the overall qualities of these vehicles because of vibration and ridiculously loud noises

id love to find a solution for this. My da is 100% stripped right now and it would be nice to do some anti vibration stuff when I start putting it back together.
Hell evev my 155whp na build vibrated like crazy.

dyno mat that **** or the dampner should work pretty good for the main engine vibes but if ur suspension is really stiff let me know wat u find my spine will thank u

I'd be interested in some realistic solutions. I had a broken pressure plate (though it still shifted fine) and my car had some pretty bad vibrations in the shifter that even made their way to the chassis. Now my car seems pretty vibration free so I'm sure it's all relative. I've got a few noises I'm still chasing down but I'm pretty sure it's just loose bolts or broken clips from my drag racing days.
Lesson learned, drag racing on slicks will slowly unbolt a mint daily driver.

my entire interior is dynamatted... what foil stuff are you talking about?
it still vibrates the floor
it still vibrates the floor

Re: Turbo Honda Vibration Battle
In all seriousness, after my swap my car had so many rattles because of the vibration from the new mounts.
I too would enjoy hearing more ideas of what people have tried and what has and hasn't worked.

Re: Turbo Honda Vibration Battle
anyone ran stock rear mount with the avid torque mounts? apparently avid torque mounts also have a 40A insert (reading through threads) but i cannot find any feedback on the 40A inserts.

Re: Turbo Honda Vibration Battle
well what i did was try to find where all of the vibrations where coming from.... my car only vibrates when taking off from a light now. when you find where the viberations are coming from you can find ways to make it stop.
the first step is always to find where the problem is....itll make things much easier.

Re: Turbo Honda Vibration Battle
The engine vibration is due to the different piston accelerations at TDC vs. BDC. The vibration force is vertical. All inline fours suffer from this. Some use balance shafts to decrease the vibration external to the engine. It is not due to a crank damper which helps control torsional crank vibrations. Other than reducing the weight of the reciprocating parts or reducing the stroke, there is not much you can do. Use the factory mounts with displacement limiters if mount deflection or breakage is a problem.

Re: Turbo Honda Vibration Battle
your factory mounts are liquid filled... your avid mounts are causing a lot of the vibrations you feel now.
and inline fours are imperfectly balanced, they "chase" they perfect balance as they go through their stroke and as someone previously posted balance shafts are used to counteract this... so unless you figure out how to engineer a balance shaft kit for a b or d motor, live with it... Its a honda, going fast shouldn't be comfortable.
