Default turbo HF is it worth it.

i know somebody that has a clean crx HF nice body si interior for pretty cheap. i also have a extra homemade turbo kit with a small rhb5 turbo set at 7lbs. would it be worth it to get that car and turbo it. i know the HF has low compression and long gears. that's good for turbo right. jus wonderin how would it do and would it be funner to drive than a regular si.

Make sure the engine is in good shape internally and if it is boost it. I would change the tranny for another one with shorter gears to help your acceleration. I think the reason for the long gears on the hf was for fuel economy....dont quote me on that though.

HF is a good chassis to work with but you'll have to ditch the engine and tranny completely....they're complete ****!

Go for a B18c1 or B18A swap with turbo!!!

I love my hf. when I bought it the car smelled of puke, gutted it and found all these dwi tickets car felt fast fully gutted till the burnouts killed the poor little clutch.shortly afterwards I had a b16.I would listen to them hf trannie is awful plus the axles are tiny. You need to upgrade to dx spindles to run bigger outers.plus the hf t body is so little. the bottom end is as stout" if you can say that about a 1.5"as the si's. put a si intake manifold on it also. good luck Jason

ok i'm not really goin to spend money on it. i just have a homemade turbo kit that would slap right on. so no motor swaps, maybe a trannies swap if one of my frenz have one lying around, oh and i can get a si manifold and tb. but other than that just HF motor and turbo. will it hold up and will it be worth it, by that i mean will it be faster than a crx si (1.6 sohc non vtec with say i/h/e). cause those motors are rated at like 112hp give or take and the HF is at like 60-70hp.

Dude...do your homework before you do anything...keep in mind that the HF engine is really shitty and that no other tranny other than an HF tranny will mate to it. At the very most (if you are able to turbo that motor), you'll get about 110WHP and do about 16 sec on the 1/4 mile. The chassis is very light because there's no backseat or heavy doorpanels like the Si and DX. Its perfect for an engine swap...I would definately consider that route dude, or you'll be spending money on nothing. The Si will still smoke you because of the long gearing on the HF...not worth it!!

you should at least get a d16a6, d16z6, or a zc in there if not a b-series. its really not worth it turboing the hf. just swapping in anyone of those motors will net more reliablity and power. turboing the hf, you will only beat a crx w/any of the mentioned motors by a tad bit if not at all. but turboing any of the mentioned motors above will easily beat gsr's with bolt-ons.

You got 2 options.

1) Keep the HF engine, leave it stock and use it for that whooping 50~60 MPG. Then get a another shell for something to tinker with.

2) Swap out the HF engine for a D16, ZC, or a B-series. Turbo it.
