Turbo Guru's Riddle Me This
Here is the scenario. Went to the dyno again yesterday. This has been the third time I have gone since turbo trying to figure out what the hell is going on. I am not even making half of the power I should. We have switched out every piece of the setup and nothing has helped. Here is the setup I used yesterday:
Garrett T3/T4 .48 a/r 60 trim
Tial Wastegate with 6.5psi Spring
Missing link
10:1 FMU wityh 310cc injectors
OBDI conversion with Chipped P28 (Helped alot)
SFP manifold
Things we have checked for: a/f ratio (was 12:1 all the way to 8500), oil pressure, fuel pressure, boost pressure, all lines, FMU (switched it out from 12:1 to 10:1). We can't figure out why its still not making power. I think that my boost gauge might not be reading right and I am loosing boost up top. Please help me out. Any suggestions would be helpful. Here are the Dyno plots:
Blue line= Stock power
Red Line= First time with Turbo
Green line= what we got yesterday
The red line was with stock ecu and check valves
Green line is with OBDI ecu and missing link
and for shitz and giggles here is a pic with the new VIS hood:
Thanks for the help guys. This has been frustrating for me. Car still feels strong. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emcrook.gif" BORDER="0">
Oh timing was at stock 16degrees and no detonation A/F was 12:1 all the way.

Do you have a boost guage? Are you actually making 6.5psi before the wastegate opens? Have you checked your intake pipes tp make sure you aren't leaking the boost somewhere?

Re: Turbo Guru's Riddle Me This (mos)
Yes we did use a wideband and we leaned it out more didn't make a difference. Just lost power. Adjusted cam gears to dial out overlap, didnt help. Messed with timing, messed with base fuel pressure, nothing.

ignition maybe? i remember people saying spikey lines on a dynograph is either ignition or detonation? im no guru, so ask around. about going leaner then 12.. i wouldnt. better safe then sorry. if its 12:1 all the way then fuel is not the reason why yer making low hp/torque.

We also thought it might be a faulty ignitor. We will be changing that out next week also going to throw in a Greddy Profec B. Checked the inside of the distributor for anything out of the ordinary, seemed in perfect working order.

I honestly think its because your knock sensor isnt wired up, if it isnt with that ECU. Buddy of mine's turbo SI dynoed and ran like **** because of a broken knock. If you dont have a knock, its probably just freaking out and pulling timing to avoid detonation.

If you dont have a knock sensor, just put one in for the hell of it. Just try it.....my friend didnt think it was his either....now his car runs just fine. What other options do u have? I really doubt its the cams.

thank Direp, I hope its something stupid. Compression was fine. Leakdown test was fine. Checked all vacuum lines they seemed secure. Something is definitely wrong just can't figure out what.

Re: Turbo Guru's Riddle Me This (DC2R714)
hehe well if it helps any the first time I went and dyno'd I had a crapload of stuff wrong with my car. it was all little stooooooooooooooooopid stuff too. I think i put down 149whp @ 4psi.
I didnt think that was too bad for 4psi, at first I thought it was my 2" DC sports exhaust holding me back. but then I was out and about and I popped my hood for some people and a local racer guy pointed to my vacum lines(i really hate telling people about this cause its quite embarressing) but anyways, ill tell u, so he points at the vacum line and is like "what is that?". turns out I had used a check vavle to connect two vacum lines to the bov. I dont know why i did it, or even how, i felt soooo dumb I must have done it in the 20th plus hour of the install and i wasnt thinking strait. so the bov was just staying wide open and was leaking boost.
so after that the car felt much better and i beat an s2k so i was happy but i still thought my exhaust was holding me back. I went and got a 3" exhaust. the car didnt feel any faster so I was like CRAP!
then I thought it was my stock clutch haha so I went and got a clutch. I went to the 1/8 track and was running 9.6's @ 74 on 4psi. 6/10ths better then stock so i was happy, i then turned the boost up to 7psi for the first time. but i ran worse and had the same mph. i was like wtf what could it be still.
so im reading on h-t about 2 weeks later and i see a post about how if the polarities on your fuel pump are wired up backwards it will make ur fuel pump really loud. well, i had a bosch pump in there, and it was extremely loud so we checked the polarities and sure enough, they were backwards. when i got my pump, the black wire was placed on the power side and the yellow was on the ground sound. me not thinking, i just hooked black to ground, and yellow to power. after that i went to the track and ran 14.2 @ 102 on 7psi. the next weekend i went and dyno'd at 8psi and made 230/198 and a few weeks later I ran a 13.3 @ 104 on drag radials. only took 2.5months to figure everything out ahah but it was quite an adventure and i learned alot and hopefully yours is something really stoopid like mine was. its just hard to guess the stupid things cause they are soo small.
