Turbo gas?
im thinking of going turbo, i was just wondering if you have to run 100 octane with a built turbo motor. by built i mean cams port and polish all the head work sleaved block and pistons and rods. mabe a little bit of boreing.... but i doubt it. its probaly gonna be an ls vtec turbo by the way. what kind of gas do you guys use? if i do have to use 100 and up what boost level will that be? im not planing on using to much boost. im probably just gonnna get a turbo kit. so to those that are confused by now... ** are you running a turbo car daily driven that runs on pump gas and doesnt ping??***well thanks for your help guys.

It depends on the car and setup.. If you start getting detonation with 93 octane then youll need to jump up in gas..
What I do is setup the ignition map for 93 octane gas and tune it to a good level without detonation, then leave the boost there for that gas.. Then run race gas in it and do the higher boost ignition map for the race gas..

^^^.........agreed
plus why are you going to spend all that money building your motor and then just buy a low boost "KIT"??........make a custom kit, you'll get better parts and make better power and learn more in the process.

I agree with both of the guys before me.
It all depends on you turbo setup and the amount of boost you are running. Normaly you can get away with using 93 octane on a motor pushing 8-12 psi without any problems. Really all rides on the quality of your tune.

I run orange juice mixed with Southern comfort. The car loves it.
Seriously, I run Sunoco 94 on my turbo cars. My R made almost 450whp very conservatively. There are plenty of guys on here making 500+ on 93 octane. I think even a few on 91. Depends on your goals really. Im sure pump gas should do the trick for street driving seeming how 400+ whp on the street is kinda retarded. Been there done that.

I run on jager bombs but my car runs on GT100.. 400+whp is fun but its hard to do anything on the street with that much power, most of the time you just end up spinning the tires..

ill agree it is fun at times. But ******* scary at other times. I cant even count the amount of times my car scared me when traction breaking loose or pulling the wheel from my hands.

Agreeing with a lot of people above. It also depends on your compression ratio also. I've seen many people who run 18-21 psi on pump buy they have 8.3-8.5:1 compression ratio. I'm planning on running 18psi on my built ls on 94 octane and c116 on 30psi. If you're building an ls/vtec turbo, you won't need a ton of boost to be satisfied. Good luck
