Default turbo clearance

ok, heres my situation, im currently runnin a t3-60 on my fmax manifold, yesterday, my friend and i were about to swap it out with a t3/t4e, the problem was...there was no way the turbo would fit, the compressor housing on the super60 is like 4mm from touchin the block...so there was no way the t3/t4 wouldve fit.so does that mean im stuck with this t3-60? damn this sucks!

and if ur wondering why i have the t3super60, well the fmax kit was free, from fmax, it was trade for the toyota paseo prototype kit from my bro, so they refabbed a prelude kit for me, also givin me the same turbo from the paseo, the t3... but for some reason, it seems as if the manifold clearance was made just for the use of the t3, so was i screwd over?!

this sucks, it makes me wanna sell this kit and get a greddy turbo!

Hmm..

I had to shave alot of the webbing off my block to make my t3/t04e fit.
Maybe you have to do the same?

I just shaved a bit of my block to get the T04E compressor in mine too. Just that tab of webbing near the tranny otherwise I would never get my intake tubing on the compressor.

Yes ALL engines have to get mutilated a bit to fit that kind of turbo... so did mine.

I test fit mine on my prelude yesterday and I will have to cut literally about an inch out of the block, but it is just casting around a motor mount bolt. So now my front motor mount will be held on to the block by just 2 bolts instead of 3, not to mention the cutting I will have to do to the plate that connects to the block and the mount on the crossmember, DAMN! I will post pics this weekend of before and after!

yup....F-max has very good fitment for all the stuff that comes with the kit (aside from the DP)...but there is tradeoff in that there is very little tolerance for upgrading...

man an inch that seems like alot. on the turbine housing is it on center or is it shifted to the side a bit. i bet that is your problem. this is a pic of the turbine being on center. mine that required miminal cutting was not on center and the exhaust inlet was shifted to the side.

pic thanks to the bastarts at turbonetics

I like my FMAX but its not really an FMAX anymore. I like their manifold and had them make a 2.5" DP and I did not use their MF2 or extra injectors.

I now have a different turbo too. Its a T3 TO4E with 0.63a/r instead of their T04B 0.48a/r.

The .48 a/r is smaller.

T04b is smaller then the T04e period.... flows a tad less.

T04 with a larger trim number will flow more but probably give you a tad more lag. Don't quote my word for bible though.

You're confusing a t3/t04e hybrid with a straight T04. A straight T04 has t4 housings on the hot and cold side, the hybrid only has the t04 on the cool side. The e and b distinguish the size of the actual housings, e being larger.

$480 for the log-style, $900 for equal-legnth. I'm shocked the fmax mani warped, how bad is it? I'm thinking it's fixable, depending on how bad and where.
