Turbo Civic
This question was probably asked but i wasnt able to get a definitive answer.
so heres my story
Not to long ago i got a pretty clean 1999 civic LX 4 door automashit. not thinking much of this car as it was my daily. slowly it has grown on me and i realised its "sleeper" potential. My goal, make it faster without comprimising its stockish sound and looks.
My friend told me to add a small turbo and go low boost. and thought well why the hell not!
so my question: is it possible to turbo the stock motor with the auto tranny?? i know the stock motor can take a bit more power than it curently puts out. put its the auto tranny that has me asking question
I NEED o keep it an auto so 5 speed swap is out of the question. and i also realise other mods to the car might be need so i dont kill myself.
thanks to whoever answers and please dont bash too much

Maybe if you keep it under 180 hp small turbo and don't beat it to much but there's no fun of a turbo if you can't beat it lol

Re: Turbo Civic
Boosting requires tuning. Tuning requires an OBD1 ECU. An autotragic requires the matching (OBD2B, in your case) ECU. Those simple facts alone neuter your ability to turbo it. Add in the fact that OEM automatics weren't made to handle much more torque than they (don't) have already. Could you do it with some FMU hack crap? Sure, but then the question is what dies first - the engine, or the transmission?

Re: Turbo Civic
stock honda autos don't like any kind of torque increase... remember they were designed to handle a lifetime of 100ft/lb or so of commuter driving. Not wannabe race car driving.
typically if the converter doesn't die first the clutch packs go fairly quick... how fast depends on torque levels, driving style, and transmission health.
A user on here, Spawne32, had an auto trans custom built for his non-vtec supercharged ls setup. Despite many many attempts he could never get the trans right. Tuning shift points and line pressure on top of tuning the motor became a neverending headache.
trust me when I say don't try it. Either convert the car to 5spd or buy one that was originally 5spd. it'll save you a ton of trial and error, broken parts, trans swaps, money, and your sanity
