there's no smoke, just a loud clunking noise and a lot of shaft play. and the oil pressure light comes on but when you give it a little gas it goes off.

yeah sounds like you are going to need a new turbo and rebuild the motor soon..... not a good sign if the oil light is coming on

so the turbo wouldn't effect the oil pressure and make the light come on.

NOOOO !!!!

Dude when that light comes on that means there is no oil pressure. So if its flickering then youve got 5 psi or less oil pressure. Sounds liek your pump **** the bed or your low on oil or your motor is just shot. Either way if your hearing clunking then id say that motor is toast and the turbo too

clunking could be the oil pump eating itself up.. happened to me after a few high revs boosting.. i blew 3 oil pumps.. my turbos gotta be replaced/rebuilt i got tons of shaft play and it leaks oil on the inlet side, but i dont hear any clunks and still run it hard
