Turbo Blanket: Where do I get one of these in black???
I found this on booslogic.com but I cannot seem to find them anywhere else online. I would like to find one in black perferably but would like to know who else makes these.
Please do not post up about DEI turbo blanket, I know about it, I don't like that one at all

In case not, it is to keep the turbo heat inside the turbo instead of radiating out into the engine bay.

ya know... DEI makes this really great.... 
why would he paint the exterior of the blanket? you go drop normal spray paint on a vinyl type material, let it dry and then bend and flex the material... what happens? it cracks

turbonetics sells one I think but its most likely like the one I posted the pic of. I can only find it in their .pdf parts pricing guide, no pics.

if you can, find out what material the exterior is made out of... chances are you could have it dyed by an upholstery shop or something

Um... How often are these things actually backed up by factual data? Like 0.5% of the time? I'm sure he means he will report on whether the thing stays cool enough to touch and whether it falls apart or not.

yea, really all you can do is give an opinion on whether the underhood temps seem lower.
i've heard the way this things fastens tends to fail and you need to rig up something of your own, but again, its what i heard.......maybe not true.
I thermal coated the turbine housing of my turbo and mani too but my underhood temps are still mad high. I have seen one of these first hand after quite a bit of spirited driving and it, really does help!!!

Where does this trapped heat go that this little cover supposedly traps? If you know anything about thermo dynamics you will understand that metal is a very good conductor of heat. This thing cannot trap the heat and make it dissappear. The heat generated has to go somewhere so once the turbo is up to normal operating tempuratures, the heat shield will become of the same heat as the turbo because the turbo is the constant in this simple equation. Next, the ambient air temps under the hood become the same tempurature as the turbo heat shield etc. etc.
If anything, this heat shield simply slows the effects of thermo dynamics where it isn't too much of a concern....say in a drag car that cools down after passing. However, I feel there is no benifit from this piece on a daily driving vehicle where the engine/turbo will be at a constant running tempurature for a long period of time.

Haleiwa-Brando...I work in power plants, they get way hotter than any car motor and they use insulation all around the turbine and other areas of the plant.
It helps keep the heat inside that area, I agree, after a certian point heatsoak will occur but it helps none-the-less...
It also helps keeps the turbo itself real hot (somewhat) which it likes for good spool etc...
