Default Turbo B20A

I'm considering building an 86 Prelude SI project car. Why you ask? Because you never see them. I'm sure this is for a reason, the most obvious would be bad aftermarket following. But how buildable is the engine? Has anyone built a FI B20A to handle some good boost? Any boost info about this car would be much appreciated.

And please, don't reply if your going to say something stupid like go with an EG. This car would be purely for the enjoyment of knowing it's one of a kind.

Don't have it yet. Still looking into it a little. Nothing says sleeper more than a stock external 86 Prelude.

I know a guy with a B20A '88 lude who has put out over 450hp, his is fully built though. So yeh you can get good power out of em, but i thnik they can be a little more prone to having problems

That's what i want do to is find out as much boost info as I can. I really want to build the entire engine as well. My goal is 400whp. This is still about a year out, but I'm new to the whole FI anyway, so no better time to start then now

the B20A is not like a regular B series motor.... there are many different things needed for a turbo setup and not much support for thos old cars......

spend ur money on something else is my opinion

I know it's not part of the b-series family so to speak. And no, I already decided on this car... mostly because of what you just said...

"spend ur money on something else"

The point is not to be like everyone else.

That sounds like a killer little sleeper. If the early B20A id like the later B20A3/5 or B21A1 you'll have to mod or fab a new front motor mount. Do you know if it also has a solid deck like the 3G Ludes? I would not be surprised to find out you can run a common Honda forged rod in that engine if you're interested in building it.

I like quirky rides, kinda want a 2G Accord EX-i to pimp.

The b20a b21a rods are really long, not like any of the b20b/b18's. Even if you cant get F or H rod to work, it shouldn't be too tough to have somebody fab some rods up. I think its an open deck motor.

You probably already have found some info about- ring problems, and poorly flowing ports if you've done some searching...good luck on the project tho! Always nice too have some diversity here.

I could be wrong but didn't preludes start using the b20a in 1988? I think the 86 prelude has an "e" series sohc motor with 12 valves.

http://www.ludespeed.com/ think that page still works...

there is a guy with a 90 Lude Si that has a fully built motor, think he is on preludeonline.com or something like thats webboard.
btw they are refering to an H23 rod. yeah it does have a solid deck. and B21A1's smoke. they are shitty motors, but im sure you can make one go fast...

hey man for internals you can run h23 rods, and any beseries pistons. As for head work you can get a p&p and then you can get b18a upgraded valvetrain.
