Default Turbo B18C1

Hey guys

I blew my engine in my CRX a year ago going through a puddle so will be finally putting a new one in this spring. I've always wanted a turbocharged car so i figure while its in the shop, may as well do the turbocharging process.

From what i've read everyone on all the forums say to have a goal in mind and i think mine are pretty clear. I'm looking for basically as reliable as possible of a setup ( i know, an oxymoron when it comes to boost). What i mean by that is im looking for about 250 whp on stock internals. Im thinking about less than 10 lbs is fairy safe, say about 8?

What im looking for from you guys is some help on recommendations for parts. I've been following honda's for a while and so i kind of have an idea of what companies offer the better turbo kits and whatnot but im not 100% on who to stay away from. Now considering my goals i think something like a full race kit would be overkill, but would i be safe to go with a greddy kit?

I know i have to upgrade my fuel system and have engine management, i think ill be running 410cc (either ID or RC, which are better), walhbro 255. Im not sure whether s300 is the way to go since ive heard some pretty good things about crome.

Im more interested in knowing about what would be some reputable companies to go to if i were to piece together my kit. like is precision more reliable than garret for the turbos, is spearco better than treadstone or arc (well k i know arc is like) but you get my drift.

anyways looking forward to some feedback from you guys

Edit: I'm looking for more of an auto x style setup. Although I'll just be streeting the car on weekends I'm think about going with a faster spooling ball bearing setup.

Sorry about that.. we get this all the time, as the reason for Glove's cynicism. There are a lot of options for the B18C1. But honestly, considering you have a CRX with a B18C1, you're going to have to sacrifice a few things anyway in the way of fitment.

First, set aside $3K, in fact, make it $4K counting tuning and other supplementals such as clutch, injectors, engine management.

There's really no need for a ball-bearing setup for what you're trying to do here. (you mean circuit racing, for this, not auto-X. If it were auto-X, I'd say get a nice JRSC or get a B20VTEC to do that)

This is one of the best "kit" companies that are available that is complete. The difference is we check out which turbo is best, and go for a smaller intercooler that fits best for your "compact" fitment space.

RC-Autowerks, Spoolin' Performance, and Go-Autowerks are the best companies to go with for complete kit options.

Thumbs up on Go-Autoworks. The other brands Shodan mentioned are probably very good as well, but I can say first hand the Go-Autoworks stuff is very, very nice. The fit and finish is superb, and if you want something custom (recirculated WG, back door inter-cooler option, etc.) they will do it. The price what you get is also very fair. Not the cheapest, but as good as anything else out there at any price point.

Its not cheap because Greg includes ALL of the necessary hardware and fittings with it, and makes up the cost of going around town trying to find the little things, giving you a headache. Everything is made to work with one another and give great results.

Why f*ck with e-bay when you can roll with quality products like this:

^ Can I get an AMEN brother... :D

My setup is a mini-ram, 5857 billet anti surge, 46mm Precision WG, recirculated 2.5" DP, and back door intercooler with a slightly shorter core so I wouldn't have to cut my core support. I asked and Greg delivered.

Ya I took a look at the 3 sites you mentions and go auto works seemed the best to me in terms of the way their site is set up. Seems the most precessional. Their kits all seem to be well put together and from what I can tell look to be quality.

And yes shodan by auto x style ball bearing I meant I'd like to get as close to the quick response of a supercharger but with a turbo. I've heard that ball bearing turbos get you into boost faster, hence me mentioning it.

With regards to the turbo manifold, I've heard that log style manifolds are more reliable than a ram style, but are more restrictive and therefore will hurt my power gains. Considering my goal of 250 whp will a log style be sufficient?

As for fitment, no PS, no AC, battery has already been relocated. Do any of you think converting to a half rad will be necessary given that this will Be done in a CRX?

if you SERIOUSLY only care about auto-x and 250whp,

get a log, and get a gt28rs, that **** will all be low end.

Youl need a half rad no matter what

I know you do... so what needs to be one is have an understanding that just because a cartridge is ball-bearing doesn't mean its the fastest spooling. Its from the wheel design in conjunction with that cartridge.

If you must do that turbo, then you need Go-Autowerks to make the manifold so that it fits an internal gate. A schedule 10 log (not the cast) w/ a T25 flange will fit the GT2860RS (that's as small as I would go).

You'll need a half sized radiator (Preferrably Koyo) either way.
