Turbo + B16 ?s
After finding that a T25 is too small for my setup, (a B16 with mild mods), I was wondering what would a good turbo be for my setup. I have had several people tell me a t3/t4 turbo is the best, but I thought those were made for bigger boost. I don't plan on doing anything over 250-275HP until I build the motor.
Also are used turbos really worth it? I have found some in good condition for around $300, but that seems high to me.
So, mildly modded B16A and which turbo for under 300HP is the questuion I guess I'm trying to ask. It will stay my daily driver and turbo lag needs to be minimal. Thanks for the help.

hybrid turbos will do fine for the setup you are talking about, if you want something with good power and minimal lag go with something like a gt28rs, but the problem is that they are a little exensive. If you want good spool and good power for less look into t-3/t-4b, with like a .48 AR. But i would suggest getting a t-3/t4E, there will be a little more lag but will get you the power you are looking for and also have room down the line for more power 400+hp.

Re: (tallyturbo)
I don't think 300 is too much for a turbo, but new turbos start at 500 so, yes 300 for a used turbo that could use a rebuild does seem high to me. I was thinking of spending around 650 (maybe more depending on what type)on the turbo itself (if it was new). Are there any benifits of a BB turbo, like the ones you guys have mentioned? My goal is in the 250HP range until I get the motor built. and like I said it will stay my daily driver...even after the build.

Re: Turbo + B16 ?s (Sketch_hs)
What is the HP potential of the gt28r (not the gt28rs); and is the gt28r the same spooling god as the gt28rs, or are they based off different tech?
Just wondering because I haven't heard much about this gt28r, but I know it's BB, and it doesn't seem to cost that much at $725.

Re: (dnbruut)
It's not really about learning to read the compressor maps, there's definately a lot more to it. The GT2871 is definately a nice combination to use on a b16, ( I use one myself on my CRX). But there is a bit more responsibility involved in making this work for him, and understanding the care of that particular turbo. If something happens, (for whatever reason) he cannot rebuild it and will be VERY pissed off. I do agree that the T3/T04 combinations are in order, but he also must look at WHICH T3/T4. A/R on housings and such are only a 1/4 of the story. For 275-300 whp with a reliable powerband that he can use, there's nothing wrong with the 60 or 57 trim turbo and the right tuner to do the job, especially staying stock block. It is interesting that people just post a turbo up, put a couple of on it, and don't get into the details as to why and what. There are favorites out there, but remember, we shold post in HIS interests, not just our own, and also point links in the right direction, since this particular topic has been beat to death for a couple of years now.
Please let me know of questions and availability. I have a few options.

There is (almost) no such thing as a good used turbo. There are only good rebuildable cores.
Used turbo shopping either works out great, or leaves you feeling burnt.
