Trim and ar?

Default Trim and ar?

When people say they have 56 trim and .80 ar or whatever, what does that mean? Im not a real turbo guy so i have no clue what the meaning is. Sorry if this is a repost but i figuered someone could tell me real quick, thanks.

Trim refers to the size of the wheel
AR refers to the air flow ratio

With a turbo you have two AR #s. One for the compressor side and one for the turbine side. The turbine side is really what most people consider. And typically the higher the AR, the higher the boost lag you may get. But this also means higher topend horsepower. The lower the AR, the quicker the response and spool, but at the sacrifice of top end power you could make with a higher AR. You just have to decide for yourself what kind of power you are looking for and go from there in deciding what turbo to get. Also, the AR is dependent on the turbo housing.

The same goes pretty much for the wheel sizing (Trim). The bigger the wheel..the more lag you will face, but yield greater top end gains.
