Default Transmission Question For Boost?

My friend's got 3 b16 trannys kick around his house. There from a hydro tranny.

Wondering if I should take some gears out of it to benifit my B18B turbo with LS transmission?
What gears should I try to get off him?

I would but they have cracked casings.
So I figure just yank some gears from it and toss them into my LS tranny.

do you know the codes on them...or do you know if they're USDM or JDM?

Here's what I know.

THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE:

Transmission Code: S80
From these Models: 94+ USDM Integra LS,
RS,GS Special Edition
LSD?: NO
Transmission Type: Hydraulic
1st Ratio: 3.230
2nd Ratio: 1.900
3rd Ratio: 1.269
4th Ratio: 0.966
5th Ratio: 0.714
Reverse Ratio: 3.000
Final Drive: 4.266

This is what came on Hydro B16's:

Transmission Code: S21
From these models: 99+ Si Coupe
LSD?: NO
Transmission Type: Hydraulic
1st Ratio: 3.307
2nd Ratio: 2.105
3rd Ratio: 1.458
4th Ratio: 1.107
5th Ratio: 0.848
Reverse Ratio: 3.300
4.400 4.400

its all about staying in you power range.size of turbo, rev limit there are so many factors.you also got to think about drivability dont forget a b16 tranny on the highway with those short gears you will be at about 5.5 grand at 70 miles an hour depending on tire size.but with most of the setups on the street the b16 with a limited slip rocks.stoplight monster.

Yea those are the right trannys.
I was thinking of grabbing the final gear from the B16, not sure what else though.

NO. You want shorter gears for boosted cars. High hwy. rpm's are something you have to deal with in a fast car. It's a sacrifice you must make.

I had an ITR tranny on my boosted B18B....sucked ***. IF you rev stock rpms, you will max out at 120 in 5th and about 100 in 4th. Highway cruising suck also.

Go here......play with the gear ratio's, rev limit and tire size.

If you don't know your tire size, go here......

use that and see

Last year I had a b18b and turbo w/ a stock LS tranny, i highway raced a lot (stfu haters) and my 5th gear killed me... like i'd be pulling 3rd, and 4th, once i hit 5th it was like i just stopped trying..

so I swapped in a GSR 5th keeping the LS final drive, highway RPM were still good cuz of the 4.26 final but man it pulled much harder in 5th

i think if i could do it again i'd keep the LS 1-3, throw a USDM GSR 4th, and a USDM ITR 5th gear on it... altho revving to only 7 is a killer but oh well

it all doesn't matter what anyone else says anyway, it all depends on what u want

I am surprised so many people does not like the LS trannies.

I had 3 so far and like it very much for boost.

Can't stand using a B16 tranny cause it will top at 120mph and your already at 8k.

LS trannies on boost for me is the ****

Personal opinion from lots of research.

ITR-B16 tranny.....A great all motor tranny. Very short geared. Also, tops out at 125 or so. The highway cruising is very tough, I had an ITR tranny with a 4.785 JDM FD and I couldn't stand cruising. However, it was great for racing and the gears were extremely short. I don't like these trannies for boost but to each his own, I think the gearing is just too short, but obviously shorter is better for racing.

GSR tranny.....I think the ideal boost tranny. You get the best of both worlds, good acceleration and you can cruise on the highway at higher speeds without reving the **** out of your car. Great tranny when equipped with lsd/clutch/flywheel for turbo.

LS tranny.....too long 3/4/5 are too long. Its the bottom of the pit when it comes to trannies. Out of the 3 its the worst for either all motor or boost. That dumbass theory of staying in boost longer and you go faster blah blah about gearing is bullshit. You go faster by accelerating, thats what closer gearing does for you. Its a good cruising tranny and thats about it.

If you make the power then those are just excuses for hating LS trannies.

I actually found a whole empty b16a casing for cheap locally. Hoping to pick it up and toss one of the gear sets in.

Actually it is FACT. Gears are nothing more than torque multipliers. It's math.............

Check what the pro racers use............they make power, most run b16's. Ask Tony1 his opinion on what tranny is better.............

Better yet, do a search, this has been covered soooooo many times.

Nothing wrong with the LS tranny, it's just not the best for speed, all things being equal, the others will be faster. The whole stay in boost longer thing doesn't hold up. I stay in boost just fine with the GSR tranny, shift faster.

Your custom gearing choice depends on your set up and end result desires.

make a 4.40 ls tranny(si ring and countershaft)...gsr 1 and 2 basically, then shorter than normal ls 3-5, and you would have slightly better 5th cruise rpm than straight b16. i guess it depends on what you want.

i say go with whatever gearing that will put you at the end of the 1/4 at the top of 4th. If you have upgrades planned that'll make your car a good deal faster, go with a little longer gearing so you have room to improve on so you dont end up screwing yourself by having to shift to 5th.

If your fifth gear is short also, you're not screwing yourself by having to go to fifth...

i cant even believe people are getting into this debate again..

bottom line..

would you like to accelerate faster? (ITR or b16)

or slower (LS)

if your having traction problems, get bigger tires or look elsewhere, dont sacrifice acceleration and get a tranny with longass gears just beause you cant put the power to the ground.

in my opinion you are; if your talking about racing down the 1/4, that shift is just too long.
