tranny fluid question
i just bought a new type r tranny from h motors and it has 20k only on it. i know how everybody says to use the gm syncromesh friction modified because it makes it shift so nicely and all. i want to use it but it seems as though most people use it to fix messed up syncros. im sure it has no grinds and its good condition but i want to use it because i want the tranny to shift as smoothly as possible. basically im wondering if its ok to use it on perfectly good working tranny. is this safe? thanks in advance.
Dealing with that issue on my other Type R transmission. Use the OEM MTL for the best results. My tech has been telling me that certain key components are of a different material than the other VTEC transmissions. With OEM MTL, from the dealership, we haven't had a problem yet.
Honda is one of those few companies that you can say, "when in doubt, use OEM".

I would only use Genuine Honda MTF on a low mileage or new tranny.
I use synchromesh in my tranny because it is so old and grinds like a bitch.
If it's only got 20k, then Honda MTF for sure.

I'd use either honda or gm. I like the gm, never used the honda MTF. The honda dealer always told me to just run 10w30 non synthetic. Never did like the way it looked when it came out. Never had issues shifting my trannies, but i've used GM synchromesh for the last 4-5 years now, and it always looks mint when i take it out.

Right, that can be done to the Other transmissions, but for Type R, being subtley different physically, I'd use the Honda MTF

i use pennzoil sychromesh on my ctr tranny, but only cause i miss shifted so bad i messed it up and the synchormesh helped take away the noise and grinding, before though all i used was honda genuine mtf.
