Total Cost Of Turbo Build?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wats up yall, as of right now I do not have a car, but I have question.
how much would an all out turbo build cost? (mid 8s-low9s/Fast and Relieable)
So far the full-race turbo kit cost $8,974
Drag suspension plus stroker kit cost $2,500
Built transmission $6000
Built Axle $1,350
total of $18,000
How much would all other misc parts cost?
My goalis , high 900-1000hp
Total budget is $27,000.
I just want to see if this is even remotely possible when I graduate Autotech II/Highschool(i'm gonna stay at my parents house for 2 years to work up the lump sum of cash). Any thoughts or suggestions?

Re: Total Cost Of Turbo Build?
So at best not spending a penny making at least $8.50 an hour working 40 hours a week for 2 years straight? Just to get a measily $27k that isn't enough for your goals?
Between the car and everything else your budget is blown. Not only that but you are half assing it already. You took the time to research the easiest stuff but not the time for anything else. So you figure you would hop on here and hope somebody else would do the math for you? Thats pretty pathetic.
Its been a few years for myself but you are looking at more towards $40-50k for a budget with a 1,000whp goal. A lot of cost in engine machining (head Port and Polished, block work, custom camshafts, ect...) and will GREATLY depend on engine platform chosen. This coupled with the fact that you want fast an reliable, which is the ONLY way to do it.
My suggestion is you have a lot to learn kid. Stay in school and research until your eyes bleed. If you can't comprehend it it's of no use so tack on another $20k for a shop to do it for you HAHA!

also
just because you have 1000hp doesnt mean you have a 8 second car. you need seat time and runs to figure out what works for you as a driver.
like the above post says: do your research for real this time and dont pop up like a troll would do and throw out these crazy numbers. i would aim low first then build from there.

Re: Total Cost Of Turbo Build?
To me your prices for your parts is on the high side you would be better off looking around before you jump out the window with buying parts and on other note you do not need to buy a stroker kit to make 900 to 1000 a stock b series crankshaft will be fine. If i was you i would piece together a turbo set up to save money so you can have more money for motor work you would be surprise how much just a built head can cost you and with you total budget you need to step you power goals down

Re: Total Cost Of Turbo Build?
You can get into the 9's with 600-700whp in a light car like a CRX or hatch set up right. There are so many other things you need to consider that cost money when building a 9 second track car. Having a motor and drive line that can make and handle the power is just the start. Now you need to do the chassis, suspension, brakes, roll cage, fuel cell, remote battery with cut off switch, bell housing scatter shield, driver equipment like a 4 point harness, helmet and full fire suite, racing license that you need to have to do that fast. If you plan to race and hit into the 9's plan to spend some money. It is not realistic for the average kid fresh out of high school to start drag racing in the 9's. Start small and work on your skills, get into the 12's and learn in bracket racing.

Re: Total Cost Of Turbo Build?
Where the **** do these threads keep coming from? People who have never modified a car in their life beyond taking it to meineke for a cat back install, posting on here that they want to build a fast and reliable 8-9 second drag car lol sure if 8-9 seconds in the 1/8th mile is your goal, thats easy, but in the 1/4 mile? Better get at least 5-10 years of engine building and as well as some other skills under your belt. Mainly driving. No one just goes out and builds a 1000hp honda drag car just like that, theres a very few amount of cars that are over 600hp on this forum, and they have YEARS of experience.

Re: Total Cost Of Turbo Build?
I have not built any 9-8 second cars but I do drag race a little at the local track and do bracket racing events. I am and ok drag racer never finished first but never last. I have built many high whp motors though. I know there is a lot more rules and safety equipment for going past the 9's but I did not want to make a book out of my post.

Re: Total Cost Of Turbo Build?
I'm gonna be real here, seeing it's gonna cost 40-50k is extremely discouraging(mid8-low9 car). i'm gonna set my goal down to 660hp. I know I sound like a jerk/lazy bastard but I honestly want to know the range of the total cost of that goal. The full-race kit that delivers that power cost $6,185. I know this is pissing people of but bear with me please.
I REALLY want to do this but if it still cost a god awful amount of money even at that power i'm calling it quits. Can you give me some estimates?

There are different turbo charger options, one of them offering 660hp.

Re: Total Cost Of Turbo Build?
You could do some awesome **** with the kinda budget your talking about, assuming you have that on hand already but 8's and 9's? No, thats something you need to be prepared for, like replacing parts that cost thousands every other weekend. Thats why very few people do it. The one's that do are sponsored race teams that do it for a living.

Asking for Sponsorships are for people who shouldn't be racing in the first place...
It is one thing to have them beg you to put their logo on your car, and a completely different one for you to beg them.
