Torque drops after 5k
Got a little question and would like some input.
I was at the Dyno on Saturday getting it tunned after my OBD1 conversion. The car made 275whp but my peak TQ was at 5k which was 216tq. After 5k the TQ just starts to drop. This was at 13psi. That day we hit 289whp at 15psi but decided to turn it down a notch
They told me that it's my cams and that the car is dying because of that. But lots of people are making lot more TQ with the Gs-R cams and for some reason it's acting weird for me.
Could it be my turbo? (T3 with .63a/r Stage 1 wheel and a 55mm trim compressor wheel)
If it helped any the car was dynoed in 4th gear on my LS tranny.
Thanks in advance people.

Re: Torque drops after 5k (CRX T-Si)
What motor? Was it droping boost?
Off the top of my head, assuming there are no boost leaks I'd guess you're choking the T3 @ 13+psi, my GSR held a nice flat torque curve through 8k with stock cams..

hmmm, so it's the turbo huh??</TD></TR></TABLE>
Well it could be among other things. What size exahust? Internally or externally gated? Did you log boost during the runs?
From that which I've seen (I had a small T3 on my GSR once as well), it's pretty typical for small turbo's to deliver alot of low end torque and choke up top, but I'd troubleshoot step-by-step to make sure it's nothing esle i.e. boost drop.
Personally, I think it's just the turbo.

Re: Torque drops after 5k (VTC_omgihavetorque_CiViC)
It's a RevHard mani with the DeltaGate, exhaust is 3" DP back from Miami Muffler.
I did not log the boosts during the runs cause I have a POS manual boost controller and it was not working at high boost so we left it at 13psi but it won't hold the boost so it would bounce back to 11psi.
Thanks Dave for your input...just need a bigger turbo I guess.

Fix the controller and log a solid 13psi pass, sounds like you're dropping boost up top which of course will show in a loss of torque as well.
In any event, I'd still go with a bigger turbo though anyways

you dont need torque after 5k...... the hp will keep you going.. the reason you need torque is for the momentum.. after 5k hp will do the job
