for 14 years my dad has had this welder and I just noticed it said tig. I was gonna buy a tig welder sometime this summer but if I can practice on this, it would be better. Here's some pics.

 

Yes. Just make sure it's hooked up with a tig torch instead of a mig gun.

 

its setup for mig right now. Its an old welder and hopefully I can the tig stuff for it. Aleast its a snap on

you should start on mig first if you havent already.

I have. I use this snap on and another one I have at home. I wanna learn how to tig.

the problem with using that setup as a tig welder is that you have no amperage control. You have to set the amperage with the dial on the welder and work with it, most tig welders that you can buy will either have foot pedal or hand control to vary welding current for better puddle control. If you can get it set up for tig without spending too much, it might be worth looking into so that you can start to practice the movements needed for tiging. Once you get past the basics you will want a welder that has amperage control. Also it will only do lift arc DC tig.

 

Get a new tig welder. Tig welding technology has changed a lot since that welder was built (i.e. squarewave technology). Go for a new one and keep it forever
