Default Tial WG users..problem with the fire ring...need your input

I blew a gasket the other day...replaced it and blew again. When i had the WG off, the fire ring was not sitting flush to the mating surface of the WG. I was able to push it up and then it would sit flat..but the WG was pushing on the ring.

If i remeber correctly the ring is suppose to sit flush...
what do you think my problem is?

Its a 35 mm tial WG

the smaller diameter goes to the WG side, the larger ones goes against the manifold/elbow side

It should stick out a tiny bit from the edge of the bottom, but the important part is to make SURE that it is even and only sticks out the same amount all the way around. Also, make sure you do not fully tighten one side before tightening the other. Do a little on each side at a time, that way you will get a better seal.

I havnet used a gasket on the manifold-wg or wg-dump for over a year. I had no leakage problems.

Just screw the gaskets.

it should stick out a little from the bottom? like how much? mine is sticking out about 1/16 to 1/8th but from what i remember, it was completly flush when i first installed it.

i can get the ring flush when i push down on the ring...but the WG diaphram pushes it back....you think i have a probem with the WG? maybe the spring?

anyone else experience this?

Yep, it sounds like yours is ok, just make sure it is even all the way around and not crooked.

sounds good they should stick out some but when you tighten them the ring is seated to the flang with pressure on it and that alows a better seal.

That's how it is designed to work. The little ring is supposed to act as the "valve seat" when it's tightened down on the manifold. By being SLIGHTLY oversize, it forces the valve to always be under pressure against something other than the housing... Sort of a self correcting seat.
