Threading Turbo Inlet

I was wanting to know is there any way to thread the inlet hole on a T3 Saab Turbo so that you dont have to get the little Flange?

its already drilled to the right size for an 1/8" NPT tap. I do them upside down to avoid geting metal in it. other than that is just like tapping any other hole.
