threaded hole in block
my brother just bought used b18c1 from a local guy and we found a threaded hole right behind the dipstick, if we pour coolant into the radiator hose going to the head it leaks out this threaded hole, does anyone know why somenone would thread a hole here?

From the pic it looks like it was drilled and tapped. It may have been used as a port for a water-cooled turbo, or if it gets below freezing where you are, it may have been used for a block heater.
edit:
I thought most block heaters used the coolant drain plug on the front of the block though, so that still seems kinda weird.

i love how people think that the dip stick tube just pops right out, they are press fit in from the factory, the best and really only way in my eyes is to remove the oil pan and put a 10mm socket end to it and slightly push it out. And most of the time when you put them back in they are going to leak. just a little FYI

on the d-series they pretty much come right out, might have to work it back and forth a little. And, never had one leak when i put it back in either.

I pop mine out all the time. It's only held in with a rubber o-ring.
Perhaps blanket statements aren't always the best approach to giving useful advice?

Re: (Legion)
maybe for some crazy reason its easier to remove them from d-series motors, who knows i dont work on those motors. Everytime i have tried to remove them from a b-series motor its a complete pain in the ***.
