Default Thoughts on using VAFC w/OBD2 vs. Hondata because of emissions testing?

In my state (PA), they'll be using different emissions testing for OBD2 cars next year. I can install my Hondata and enjoy it for a year, but then I'm pretty much fucked because they'll plug their sensor into the OBD2 port instead of doing a sniffer in the tailpipe.

What if I were to just sell the Hondata S200B, OBD1 ECU, and OBD2-OBD1 harness and just get a VAFC, tune it and retain the stock OBD2 computer? VAFC has to be better than the blue box because it can be tuned. Would it pass emissions with the VAFC? What should I do?

Could someone at least respond... (either)...That's a great question, I'm in the same situation as you. -or- You're a jackass, just pay someone $50 for an inspection sticker.

I live in Tucson and I can pass emissions with the Greddy unit or, like you suggested the Vafc. The Hondata will allow you to fine tune your car, but it will be at the expence of the emmissions standard. Good luck!

Emission testing is only every 2 years correct?

Just take all the turbo stuff off for the test.

Yea, it will take a few hours, but whats a few hours compared to two years.

With the VAFC, you have no direct control over the ignition timing...that's a very key factor in tuning.

Keep the Hondata, remove it and reinstall the stock injectors when it comes time for testing. It'll take a few hours.

Here in Cali (the smog **** capital of the US), the scantool port is only used to pickup the RPM signal. The tech had a lot of trouble finding the one on my Miata. He eventually did find it, but his connector kept falling off, so he just used an RPM pickup on the #1 spark plug wire.

Thanks guys, I think I'll keep the Hondata. It's worth the trouble.
