Exactly where I bought mine from. I used 2.25" aluminized u bends. You should be good with buying 4 of them.

Get 2 inch from the turbo compressor side to the intercooler inlet. For the outlet of the intercooler to the throttle, 2.25

i bought 5 peices of the 2.5 inch u bend part # 81ZX3035N,had plenty to do all my piping and my downpipe,it was $120 shipped to my front door.here is the link, for some reason when i ordered it with my credit card it came out cheaper,so try that. http://www.jcwhitney.com/item.jhtml?ITEMID=4068&BQ=jcw2

heres a question for you knowledgable people.
if say someone, me, isnt too keen on welding custom piping together from jcwhitney, could i just connect two pieces together like you would connect the pipes to the intercooler and tb?

i've seen people weld and i've seen people use silicone hose clamps. just wanted to know if it would be able to work either way.

screw clampy thingys, hilarious

"i've seen people weld and i've seen people use silicone hose clamps. just wanted to know if it would be able to work either way" - well I have 2 welds and the rest is hoses clamps w/ screw clampy thingys so it should be ok

The less couplers you have the better. Less chance of blowing the pipes out of the silicone tubing. I had mine all ghetto rigged and finally had it all welded up yesterday. I have 6 silicone pieces...

from turbo to ic pipe
from ic pipe to ic pipe, to allow me to remove the first section of pipe easily
from ic pipe to ic
from ic to ic pipe
elbow from ic pipe into engine compartment
from ic pipe to tb

If you make a bit of a lip on your pipe ends you won't blow them out of the connectors. You can also put a bead of JB Weld/ Epoxy around the pipe ends and then LET IT DRY and use that as a lip to seal it off. I'm using radiator hose to connect some of my pipes; cheap, found in smooth bends and meant to withstand high temps. Silicone connectors are a rip, imo.

Get the J bends, not the U bends. The J bends have a tighter turn radius.

from http://www.jcwhitney.com you will need

part #:

81zx3031u-you will need 2
81zx2953p-you will need 1
81zx3035n-you will need 1 unless you already have a 2 1/2 in CAI then you wont need this.

this what it says in the instructions i got from ebay...i got them because iwas curious as to what it included and was only 2 bucks...too bad half the file was f***** up so i couldnt really read the daymnnn thing...oh well it only had stuff i already knew anyways...place together a turbo that cost about 1 g...who are they kidding...for most of the parts the instructions says: ebay. funny eh. i would say more like 1500 for everything.

Hey wouldn't the piping sizes be different for a D16? Like the diameter? I think it would be 2.25? I need to know for sure cause I might buy my pipes tomorrow or something

I have shitty mild steel piping from Maxrev. I'm going to have to get it JetHot coated before I put it in my car. Then after all the cutting is done. I'm goin to paint the edges that they cut with some high temp rust resisitant paint.

pain in the ***, pain in the ***. As for the charger pipe and inlet pipe, I'm just goign to get that custom made.

I'm using 1 7/8 ID (2" OD) piping on my D16, when you do the calculations it comes out to not cause any restriction until above 300hp, so the smaller the pipe the less lag. I think it might be a good plan to step up from this small of a pipe before the TB so that it's a gradual increase, maybe up to 2.25 or 2.5 (could just use a short ram intake) so you don't get alot of turbulence.

that was for a b-series motor but im thinking the same pipes would work because you will need to cut basically the same curves and just make the pipes longer or shorter as needed

here's a great suggestion i got from a site. since the couplers tend to come off under pressure, you can make a bead around the ends so the pipes can hold. just mask off a stripe around the edges of each connecting side and put a layer of jb wel over that strip. immediately remove the masking tape and you got a little ribbon that goes around the pipe that can hold the couplers in place. i got jc whitney pipes too so i'm just waiting till i get everything before installing. here's a thought, it seems like alot of us here on -tech are doing their first turbo install and i think it would be a great idea if we can all post pics and share our experience once our project is done? any thoughts on this?

i like that idea... kinda simple. how about jb welding the pipes together? would that work? Also like the idea of posting pics of our setups once we're all done. Should make a topic for a rol call on those who are working on and almost finished with their setups. Also... for a D16... what size piping should i get? 2" from turbo to i/c and 2.25 from i/c to TB? or 2.25 and 2.5?

i don't know but, alot of the custom intercoolers come w/ 2.5 inch inlet/outlets, so i think 1.5-1.6 liter engines should go w/ 2.5 pipes. that's my thought and besides i already got the 2.5" pipes from jcwhitney already so no turning back!

y not cut first, get em lined up and then get it jetcoated? doesn't that save time?

The JB Weld is good for beading, that's what I had to do. Muffler shops can also flare out the ends for you. Either way...

I would not try JB Welding the piping. It will cost you more in JB Weld than it will to have it mig welded and will fall appart, I don't care how strong JB Weld is.
