Thinking of leaving the darkside..
everyone i know whos had a dsm(including me) was working on the car more than driving it. my friend owned a stock gst that was down for at least 2/3 of the time he owned it. In fact the most reliable dsm ive ever seen was my friends race built 1st gen gsx, his car ran most of the time but it was fully built and virtually ever part in the engine bay had been replaced. Now I know that evo's are a different story and are the most reliable of the dsm's they are still dsm's and will have their problems. Most of which (i've heard) will be tranny issues. every awd dsm ive ever seen has been through more than one tranny. (mines in the shop right now for a tranny rebuild)
DSM'S ARE ONE OF THE MOST UNRELIABLE CAR'S EVER!!!
DSM = Diamond Star Motors A joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi to produce the Talon/Eclipse/Laser/GVR4/3000GT/Stealth in the U.S.
The EVO is ALL MITSUBISHI.

I wouldnt buy the evo for one reason. If you had that car you would drive it hard, wouldnt you?? Well I am sure the first owner drove it pretty hard as well, so you really dont know what you are getting. Could break on you next week......
turbopanda,
I feel you. I was in your same place two months ago. I sold all my turbo parts for my honda. It just wasnt reliable enough for my type of use. My turbo car is my eclipse (4g63 like the evo and awd) now. Its a billion times more reliable then the honda ever was at making big power. The only downside is the crappy eclipse drivetrain. But the evo (like your evo4 you found) is much stronger.
Its not hard to make big power with them.

i'd honestly ditch the teg and opt for the EVO. This is coming from me, living in the US. Why not take advantage of all the awesome cars in thailand that we don't get here in the states. That's what i would do at least. Plus it makes more sense if there's a huge aftermarket over there for the EVO and a much smaller aftermarket for the turbo teg. That's just what i would do though. 4WD would be really really nice... dump the clutch at 7k rpm and take off with nothing but a little scrabbling from the tires.
Evo 4 or 6...whatever
Supra TT...that sounds better but not what i was thinking....get a Skyline!!...damn you live in JDM Land it shouldnt be hard to find one...damn id take almost any Skyline
if i had the money...

i hear you man, im pretty sick of my honda, and its fully built but you never know when its gonna go, thats why im doing my rb swap in my 240. it should be pretty fast. my friend ran his and his first run he roasted the tires all the way through 4th gear only ran a 15.2, but then he put an lsd and some new plugs and ran it again and he ran a 12.6. not bad for stock. its pretty cool when you only have to turn up the boost to 6-7psi to pump out 300-350+whp and a shitload of torque, intead of 15-20psi.
Jesus...I wish I had the opportunity to have to need to make a choice....
I mean, I wish I lived in Thailand or anywhere else. We'd never see one of those for sale...
Anyway... go for the Evo!!!! I would if I had the chance...

i know how you feel. i'm in a similar situation as you. i blew up my engine last week and it's was also my fault and right now i don't know if i'll sell my SiR and buy an S-14 silvia. if only i have the money i would have an evo5 or 6 as 2nd choice instead of an S-14 silvia.
the silvia like the evo, will have more reliability and stronger internals as they are built for boost. just swap in larger turbo or raise the boost and you'll have more power. the S-14 from where i live(philippines) are badged as 200sx and they came with the SR20DET engine unlike those in the US which is a 2.5L non-turbo and i heard that SR20DET is a reliable engine. but the disadvantage with these cars is you don't know if the previous owner drove it hard and was rebuilt already and if it was rebuilt properly.
on the other hand, if you stick with your teg, for me it's more of an accomplishment since you modded the engine and tune it to even outrun a supra tt. as you said, there are lots of evo in thailand already so that means owning a fast turbo integra such as your car and able to whoop a supra's *** is something. i hope you get my point. that's the reason why i'm still considering turbocharging my car again.
the only advice i could give is, if you've already had the kind of fun in your teg and if you feel that you've somehow accomplished something in your car already then by all means move up to the next level and buy an evo. i'm sure you won't regret getting the evo AS LONG AS you make sure it's still in a very good condition and the previous owner hasn't drive it that hard for it to have been rebuilt already.

Strong factory-turbocharged engine, easy to drive, 4WD, etc...
Which motor did you melt in which car?
I hope not the Integra.

I'm running a B20B shortblock with fully built B18C head (full of ferrea/crower stuff) - B20B is stock.. running stock B20B pistons and rods with a custom-made blockguard which seems to be really holding the sleeves up (after 1 week of abuse at 0.9 bar). When I was racing the Supra, I wasn't looking at my EGTs, and they went very high.. over 950°C (i pushed the peak button on my meter after I realised what had happened to the engine) and thats how i melted them..
I've been giving it much thought today. If I had a set of JE's.. it might just hold up to the power. The only things that I hate about my teg is the fact that its extremely hard to drive smoothly from standstill, and in traffic (CM stage 4 clutch/flywheel) and the terrible fuel consumption that I get. Also the petrol fumes that enter the inside of the car from my 2nd fuel pump & fuel cell in the trunk, and the complaints I get from people when they have to sit in the back.
Maybe I should just sell it, and buy, if not an evo, another factory-turbocharged car. Supra would be nice, but I can't afford it.. its another 50% on top of the price of an evo. I could get a Silvia S14 though, or an MR2 turbo, or *maybe* an R32 GTR Skyline. But considering that I work in my spare time as a computer consultant (its what gets me money to do the car
), I have to carry lots of equipment. Try putting 2 computers with 19" monitors in an integra. Not an easy thing to do
which is why I'm looking more into an Impreza or an Evo - something with 4 doors
I've been looking for a few days now.. and its just so hard to find a real good-condition Evo
Most of the nice ones are fake Evo's (made from a 2WD Lancer) but they just don't have the strength of a real Evo.
I could get a JDM WRX STi, full option for 80% of the price of an evo, even though I love the Impreza body styling, i'm not a big fan of their engines and gearboxes
I also just found out that if I was to buy a real 2nd hand Evo 6, I could get a Supra for the same price, so it looks like i'm gonna have to look for a cheaper Evo 4 complete with all the Evo 6 bits'n'pieces..
if I don't get another japanese sports car, i'll probably get out of this game, and move to a european car, do it up nice, but it won't be anything fast. Maybe an Audi A4 2.4 V6, or a Passat V5/TDi, or a BMW 3-series.
I know we all love our hondas, but seriously, if you had the chance to move onto something that is better, would you do it? I want something that doesn't have little problems every week or so. Something reliable. Something I can kick down on everyday and not have to keep an eye on 5 meters like I do with my teg, praying that nothing breaks.
My friend moved from an EG Ferio to a JDM Impreza WRX STi version 6, and he doesn't regret his decision, although he does miss the fun of a VTEC engine from time to time..
but then again, he never owned a turbocharged car before -- I did.

just get daddy to buy you a 300 grand diablo..
hell why not.

sell all of your turbo parts and do a mecha-tune (NA tune) on your car....you can find tons of used stuff here,so you won't have to spend a fortune.

True as a DSM tuner for 3 years the 4G63 is a great motor but yet very unreliable. That is why I moved to Hondas. Cheap, easy to build, and abundant parts. Stick with the Integ and civic.

I owned a DSM Once, turned out to be a lemon!
Owned the car for one year, 6 months it was in the shop.
$23,000 in rental car expenses.
And the WORST customer service I have ever experienced.
It got to the point where the service manager said we were doing something to the car, and they couldn't figure out what it was!
After he said that, I never talked to them again, we called a lawyer to do the fighting for us.
I would NEVER EVER EVER think of buying another Mitsu again!

First off..
DSM = Laser/Eclipse/Talon while the GVR4 is somewhat considered to be one as well.
The 3000GT and the Stealth are not DSMs.
Reliability on a DSM comes from the motor, but is lost in the transmission. Unless tuned improperly it is damn near impossible to blow up a 4g63, especially if it is a 6 bolt motor. The later 7 bolt motors might walk on their own, and that does suck.
But same w/ reliability issues, if you know how to work on cars, it's not that big of a deal. There is the saying that goes... "DSMs... Making mechanics out of ordinary people since 1989."
But turbopanda, what I would recommend is this:
Do what you want, not what people on this board want you to do.
Talk with your father, talk with your tuner, and think for yourself as to what you want your current or next car to do, and go from there. Just stay within the bounds set by your parents and what you can actually support as a daily driver.

I'd def. go for the evo, or some other 4wd 4-door. A 2-door will never match a sedan in terms of practicality, and the AWD is nice to have when the weather gets not so nice.
