Default Thinking about going turbo.

I have a eg SOHC civic.

I'm thinking about going turbo, and whether it would be a good idea.

I like to take the car to track events, and the reliabillity concerns me a bit.

I just want some awesome power, and the sound of the turbo.

I think 250 hp would be acheivable? And still have good reliabillity on stock internals?

Just looking for some advice

250 could be achievable, but i wouldnt try to hit 250 in a stock internal'ed engine. Becasue if you try to get 250, your reliablitiy will be not so good to say the least....of course some people run for years on stock internal'ed 250 hp SOHC,...but not advisable....

Piece your own kit together. It will save you money, and will ensure that you have no weak links in your setup.

Custom turbo kit is the best route for you to take, you get what you want and it's half the price of of the kit. Order a cc-fab mani for like $250, pick up a t28 off of ebay(garrett/Aireach) $250-$300, BOV, Boost contoller, Oil line, Engine management, vacuum lines, boost gauge etc................ It will cost you around $2000 at the most if you piece together you kit, vs buying a Edlbrock/Peakboost/fullrace kit. Just make sure you get a nice turbo!

If you play your card right, you should be able to come in under $1500. Turbos for a small D Series are very cheap and arent hard to find.

230-250whp is easily attained w/ the right setup.

For reliability you can go several ways. Depending on which dseries you have. THey are strong just not as strong as the bseries out of the box. If you want reliability stay at around 200-220hp with your single cam. Get a nice t3 turbo which should give you good boost rsponse, good price, reliability, and good top end. Piece together a kit like used manifold and intercooler and you should be at about 1g. Get a good tune and your done.

Option 2 get a b18b and sell you dseries. They run for about the same price so you can get a decent b which will yeild more power with the right set up and better reliability. Get a t3/t4 and boost from 8-12 and you should be at or above where your goal is with good reliability.

OPtion 3 build the d series block. WIll be about the same or even less then the b18b and get you more power, with the right set up, and reliability. Here you can pick between a variety of turbos like the sc61 GTseries turbos depends where you want to go, might want to get a PT series turbo and just try to hit like 600hp, who know. But that was my suggestion so good luch. BTW the dseries is a good platform often overlooked.
