Default Thicker d16y8 head gasket? help!

i got my greddy d16a thicker head gasket in today, tomorrow im going to try to put it on my d16y8 block, will it fit perfectly or will it not work?

its the only thicker head gasket i could find, and the greddy gasket says 92-95 d16a, and when i lined it up with a stock d16y8 head gasket i got from honda, 2 of the bottom bolt holes do not line up exactly, i also got arp head studs so i hope everything goes in good

The two center holes on the bottom(the side closest to the front of the car) are for the dowel pins, so I'm thinking you need those to line up right.

ok well the last time I installed the 92-95 grex (greddy 2mm) head gasket on my d16y8 it fit absolutely perfect...NO MODDING NEEDED it goes right on and bolts right up.

PS just pay close attention to the way the gasket fits, its not entirely idiot proof.

about the ARPs for Ds,they only make one set of headstuds to cover all the Ds from 88 and up,only time youll have problems is when u mix and match heads to blocks,i used a D16z block with a D16y head, had a problem with 2 of the ARP studs being too long, the D16Y has two head bolt pads lower than either the D16A or D16Z head but it aint a problem if you use the D16Y block, cause those two holes are deeper in the block.

So the D16 ARP head studs WILL work in a D16Y8 longblock? Can anyone confirm this that has actually done it?

I need to know because I will be assembling my D16Y8 LB soon with some D16 ARP head studs...

yes, they will work with an all d16y motor, all the bolts are the same length as a D16Z or D16A,only diff is that the D16Y block has those two deeper holes in the block to make up the diff in the head.

The greddy head gasket worked perfect on the y8.

As for as the ARP head bolts..i dont think they work. The y7/y8 head bolts are much shorter then the z6..so they wont work.

Im not sure if ARP makes the right sized bolts...but the a6/z6 wont work.

So just shorten the studs. All you'd have to do is cut some thread off the block side and wala.

i asked an ARP tech about that,he said thats a bad idea and recommended against it,he said its a better idea to use a couple of extra arp washers instead,so thats what i did.

I cant speak for the y7 cause i havnt check it out yet but on a Y8,all the head bolts are the same length as a Z6,I know this from checking a Z6 and Y8 all apart and side by side trying to figure out why 2 of the ARP studs where sitting higher when i mounted the Y8 head on Z6 block.

the head gasket went on perfectly, everything went back on fine, just it seems that the timing belt is making a wineing noise of some sort.....

and i got the newest arp head studs, when i talked to the sales person they said there was an older model number that had longer studs and this newer model was a little shorter...so i went with the shorter and it worked fine

now i just have to fix this damn noise

you might have the timing belt adjusted too tight, itll make the oil pump sing like that.

Did you loosen up the 14mm bolt that goes thru the center of the tensioner?
