thermostat problems ..help
first of all some info on the car...
freshly build prob 7 miles on the motor
jdm gsr b18c block
.20 itr pistons
stock head gasket ..sprayed copper stuff on it
arp head studs torqued to 80 ft lbs
stock b16a head back from the machine shop nice and flat
b16 head gasket
compression 185-190 all the way across
.50 trim turbo ..hondata ..
the problem is my car runs hot and the bottom hose is cold every time
but the car does run cool with the thermostat out
i put the thermostat in boiling water and i saw it start to open at 180...
even bought a brand new thermostat ...still ran hot
i tried everything i can do to bleed the air out the system ...used the bleeder valve
i parked the car on a hill and then jacked it up making my radiator the highest point on the car and let it warm up with no rad cap..
i took the top radiator hose off and hooked a garden hose up to it and turned it on and it flowed right out the top of the radiator...
..i know im putting the thermostat in right lol and im putting the little valve thingy at the top
i am completely stumped ...can anybody help me out?
...another thing is i think hondata is in safe mode or something b/c it wont rev past 3.5k....but im planning on getting it tuned right after i figure this situation out

Re: thermostat problems ..help
sounds like air in the system. if the t-stat is opening in boiling water but not on the car then air may be preventing it to open properly. when bleeding the system you should have the heat on high and let the car idle with no cap until the cooling fan cycle twice. i suggest using a locking funnel to ensure the coolant stays up high so all the air comes out. the Lisle 42610 works great...http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-24610-Sp.../dp/B001A4EAV0

Re: thermostat problems ..help
yea i mean the heater is all the way on hot ...the blower motor is off (if that matters...)
i kept the rad cap off let it idle till it got to 205deg then i cut it off. bottom hose cold
i have the fan on a switch and kept it on the whole time from 120deg
and like i said earlier it was jacked up and on a hill so that the radiator was the highest point...
i dont know how else i can bleed the air out the system ... my overflow stays the same level

Re: thermostat problems ..help
the blower motor should be running on the highest setting. also turn to fan back to factory temp (200*) during the bleeding process. try to massage the rad hoses to work the air out.

my fan is on a switch ...so dont turn the fan on till i see the thermostat open?
i will try that and try the blower on max as well as massaging the hoses
should i try it on a flat surface ...b/c i have been doin it on a hill with my rad at the highest point

might want to try a flat surface. if anything just jack the front up a bit.
in stock configuration, the fan would not turn on until the thermostat opened so yes you should wait until both hoses are getting hot before you switch the fan on. dont let it over heat though. air can be stubborn sometimes.

Re: thermostat problems ..help
ok so i just drove it around and it didnt get over 190 until i got back and let it idle for a while...then it went up to 204
the bottom hose was warm but not hot ...the top hose was HOT
think i still have a little bit of air in there but its opening partially?

Re: thermostat problems ..help
i checkd it out this mornin and there was some air in the top of the radiator so i filled it up and went for another drive
she stayed at 192-195 the whole time and when i got back i let it idle for like 3-5min and it didnt go over 197
so are these normal daily driven temps?
...think i had the thermostat gasket on backwards ...WOW
