Ive been running E85 for a couple years in the car now and its never been this much of a problem in colder weather until now.

I must have cranked my car about 30+ times this morning until it fired up, its soooooo annoying. it has been happening all week. Is there anything i can do to make it easier for my car to fire up in cold weather?

 

Your e85 is now e70 and running richer.

You can retune, or switch to an ems that compensates using the GM flex fuel sensor.

 

Black R, what EMS are you using?

 

On my autox car (which is the only one I run on e85), I use crome pro and innovate wideband + MS knocksense.

I basically street tune at each fill-up as I'm changing my setup regularly and dialing it in.

Of interest to you might be pro efi, with the flex fuel option.

It's pricey though...

Well you can deal with just running rich till the summer blend becomes available again.

Or you can simply have a winter tune and summer tune and just swap out when the gas changes each fall and spring.

It's mostly fuel tuning - you could probably get away with not even touching the timing maps.

Or you can buy 55gal drums of real e85 - and the consistency will be better and more pure than the stuff you get at the local gas station.

I had the same problem as u. I got my car tune early this month and the winter gas came out oct.15. Now my car is flooded when WOT. I will also need a another tune.

 

If you have a S300 just pull some fuel from the fuel trim. You also may have to pull from the cranking as well. It's easy man... start at -5% and go from there.

If you really want to know your ethanol content do the baby bottle test if you are cheap. Test it when you start experiencing changes running characteristics.

 

I was able to check my gas in the car and the % was 90. I'm not sure what was the % on the one during my tune. I would think a lower percentage??

 

Then you obviously didn't do it right unless you meant 90% gas? Plus, who DOESN'T check their content when going to get tuned when pump fuel varies SSSOOOO much? That's insane to not know that variable and get tuned. You are VERY lucky if you can get over 80% ethanol content let alone true E85.

I have an Zeitronix Ethanol Content Analyzer and the highest I have ever gotten was 81% by trying almost every E85 station in a 50+ mile radius. I have been running E85 in my "hot rods" since about 2006 IIRC... been a while though. They stay more towards E70 as much as possible for some reason although I fully understand different suppliers, tanks, regions, and anything else you can come up with as an excuse LOL!

 

It's my first time testing e85. I just didn't it as the direction and got e90. Unless I didn't wait long enough. I left it sitting for up to 5min

 

I'm trying to pull gas out from the cranking pulse. Which do I change and how much? Do I change ect or pulse ?
