Default Testpipe / High Flow Cat / or Gutted Cat

I was wondering which out of the three I should go with in my setup. I plan to boost from 5 to 7 pounds at most (7 being the fact that I won't need the missing link with the FMU). Also I heard about people saying their car smelling really crappy after they took out their cat. Is this true in every situation? I know with a testpipe, ill need a o2 simulator. Which out of the 3 would give best performance?

Also another question, what is the pro/cons of running on a gutted cat. (I plan to put aside my stock cat for smog and buy a gutted cat from a friend)

Keep the cat. You won't regret it. I have a test pipe on my car (stupid dx) and it not only will the cat keep your car quieter, but it won't hurt the environment, and you won't have to worry about the huge fine associated with running catless. A high-flow cat flows almost as well as a test pipe, but without all the associated problems.

Problem is that wont my stock cat get clogged (fill up with carbon) due to the greddy turbo kit? or would it not clog at stock boost?

It won't clog as long as you aer'nt running super rich.

gutted high flow cat = that way u have a big test pipe, but if anyone of the law looks under there for any dumb reason, it looks like you've got a cat

I'm planning on ditching the bluebox and running on the Vortech 12:1 FMU. Is that not consider super rich? Which exact setup would cause me to run super rich?

with either of those your gonna run pretty rich. the optimal thing to do is get like hondata and have it tuned. that way u have a good a/f ratio accross the board.

sorry if this topic gets shifted from original .. but

I never really understood what "running rich" is. I just understood that I run rich whenever there is a lot of fuel. So what exactly does running rich means?

Also, are there any cons of running a bit rich besides worst gas mileage from fuel setups such as the 12:1 FMU without any fuel controllers? I know the pros are no detonation but will running rich harm the engine?

Thanks yall

running rich isn't the best for your car, b/c it creates a carbon build up inside your motor.

Caring about the environment, or worrying about fines is up to the owner.
Yes a test-pipe (no cat) will smell. If you are running real rich, the fumes may get to you.

A highflow flows near the amount of a test pipe and should yield more low end torque but less high end HP.

The stock cat doesn't flow well at all, and it probally will clog up in time even if you are running the correct a/f ratio. Also, the stock flanges are a huges restriction as well.

Will i need a o2 simulator for the high flow cat? Also does the brand matter? I see some floating around on ebay for 50ish and some for 200ish
