Default TECH SCHOOL

Hey Guys! I haven't been on here in a while and I need some help! I'm almost finished with my AS Auto Tech degree and have to make a decision on what to do next. My goal is to eventually open my own race/customizing shop. Here are my options: transfer to a university for a BA in business, go to UTI, go to Wyotech, or start on a mechanical engineering degree. Do I really need to be an engineer?? I would also prefer to go to Wyotech instead of UTI for the reason that they offer more custom fabrication courses as well as a full program on high performance engines and chassis. I guess what I'm asking is... do I need an engineering degree to build race cars? I'm thinking a BA degree in business and attending Wyotech would be the best thing to do. ANY ADVICE WOULDE BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks! Chris

i dont believe you need any sort of degree to do anything, just hands on experiance

the degree will help you get a job, and the schooling will give ya pointers/tips.

this is my opinion, im not a big fan of school/college/ whatever.

yeah i agree you don't need a degree to do anything... but i do think that by getting a good education in whatever it is you want to do increases the chances of you going further.

S.A.M. (School of Automotive Machinist?) .

I went to U.T.I. and its pretty cool. It does have some very good and helpful courses, but others kinda suck and are a waste. Some of the info is alittle outdated and some stuff isnt. Its a toss up, I feel a lot smarter about automotive related issues now though.

As a former graduate of UTI I learned a lot when I was there. I think it really depends on how much you pay attention and get your hands dirty. I had a couple friends who graduated with me and they dont know **** but hey thats why I make twice as much money as them right. I now work at a Toyota dealership and I love it.

Indeed. I'm training at Mercedes right now, so it at least can help you get your foot in the door (provided you paid attention).
