Default tdo5 or t25??

ok im turboing the D. i search around and didn't find much on comparing these turbos,. i have a dsm tdo5 that needs a rebuild but a friend of mine has one of his t25s off of his vr4 that has recently been rebuilt for cheaper then a rebuild of the tdo5. i was wanting to know the difference in the sizes of turbos as far as power on a zc and if the t25 vr4 flange is the same as the dsm flange. thanks alot guys.

The T25 is the same as the TDO5 flange. As far as power, the TD05 will make more, but the T25 will spool quicker. If you want to make the same power, just turn the boost up a bit on the T25.

If you have a T25 at hand, just use it. It will work fine. Really there isn't a HUGE difference.

Yes there is huge difference....t25 flows 250cfm where 14b(td05) flows 450cfm. Difference in spool up is less then 200rpm difference so i'd recommend rebuilding the td05.

That isn't a HUGE difference, like comparing a T3 to a GT40. The turbos are on the same motor stock, they make about the same power in stock trim, just the second gens have a bit higher compression and stupid crap.

Like 50hp difference is big difference to me....but if you want to take it to the extremes td05 has gone high 10 sec on a dsm with some minor porting to it. And no 1g and 2g motors are not the same...same block but thats about it.

I already stated that the motors aren't the same. My whole family has DSM turbos on their cars, now if you really want to get technical there are TONS of TDO5H turbos. So I assume you are picking the 14b, not any of the others. In that case, on a D16 there is no reason a T25 would not work just fine. If you want more power turn up the boost.

And for instance I do come from a DSM background, I assume just like yourself.

And I am going to tell you right now, that a T25 and 14B at the same boost (relatively low (9-14), not maxing either of them out) on a D16 will not be a 50 hp. difference.

I would expect spool almost imediatley, seriously around 3-3500 and it will pull to red line.

I have installed t25 on someones d series and it craped out before 6k at 8psi....however its true that td05 and t25 make same power at low boost which is sub 12psi anything over that and t25 tends to fall apart, but td05 will pull alot better then t25 on the top end. I'm not speaking out of my *** nor i'm trying to knock you down 93turbo16 but i have done many installs and in my opinion t25 just suck ***** to be put on anything.

Now to answer your other question la0stha some people get creep from using 3'' downpipe. There are ways to get rid of it but if you just use 2.5'' dp you will be fine...and either turbos should run about 8ish psi off the wastegate.

I am not downing your experience either, I fully back the 14b and 16g turbo line up. I have 3 D series running them right now. One a 14b, one a reg 16g and one a super 16g. I don't use the T25 very often for anything, I find the 14b to be a better turbo for my goals. But anyone for low boost, stock motor D series will work.

So if the price is right get the 14b, but if you are saving say $100 just do the T25.

I had a td05 14b and loved it, i have a 16g now and i get full boost by 3200rpms (runs RICH) but the topend pull is amazing.
