Im curious to know if there is really sucha a thing as "too big" for a throttle body when boosting. I was looking into a 70mm bbk, or porting my oem one to 64mm. I was told that you actually loose boost if you go to big..is this true? Any info would be great..

I don't think you'll lose boost

If you do too large you may be doggy on the bottom end though. BBK SUCKS! Mine stuck all day long and so have many others I've seen. Pick a different one....I've heard good things about these:

Speaking of throttle bodies, has anybody used the STR one? Looks like a copy of Erick's.

You'll just experience lag, but you'll get very nice top-end. Make sure to match your TB with your IM. Not HP torque. It'll move your torque up the RPM range. You might see better HP, but it's just the torque increase up top.

BBK has a bad rap like what blackhatch said.
I've also heard nothing but goods things about the Ericks racing ones, but you could always just get an OEM one from somewhere else as long as they use the speed density system. I'm going to be trying an Infiniti 90mm with 85mm internal diameter when I get the fundings. I can't wait to get a new job. Tired of being broke.

I bought a BBK one because it was used and cheap. Personally I haven't had a problem with it sticking, but I have heard other people with that problem. The only problem with it is my idle is now at 1500 rpm's. I'm going to have to wait for Hondata to try and lower it, but I'm used to the high idle now.

It's sticking....that's why it idles so high lol. They all are apparently like that. I fought with it for like 6 months before I finally tossed it back on the shelf.

Send yours to Proflowdesign.com and have them port it out. They took my GSR TB and bored it to 64mm for like $130 shipped. EXCELLENT work!!!! Once they received it, it took them (no lie) one day and it was in the mail the next day. If they have your TB in stock, they will send you that TB and then you send them yours, for a core, once you receive theirs. Very good service! They use a SS plate that basically looks like a mirror!! Oh, and notice the two screws on the shaft are flat to resist airflow!

regarding the ericks racing; from what i've seen it's effect isn't the greatest unless you have a higher compression/larger displacement motor.... so 1.6ers might not enjoy it too much.

I heard that if your TB is "too" big, lag will be your only foe, which will be to a minmum. and yes, BBK's suck, and they stick like a ****, get a spring, and you will be alright, or, my suggestion, by another brand

Stock works well for me. I dont think that there is a significant gain from going with a larger throttle body, hence why i keep it stock. 5-10whp gain for 300-400.00 is not something I would even consider. Well see if i can make my 400whp on pump gas goal with the stock one, and 500whp on race gas. Just like the stock fuel lines, I think that the aftermarket throttle bodies are overkill and you can make very good power without one.

I look more to loosen up the air flow and bring the temps down a bit by reducing turbulance. The lag as you stated is easily countered with higher compression or a faster spooing turbo. Not to mention the throttle response isn't that bad from what I've been told. In the end we'll see. When I get mine all together again I'll let you know what the difference is like. It's taking forever being broke.

With BBK TB's , sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you get stuck with the ones that stick.

I was lucky! The first one I purchase didn't stick. However i have seen other people go through 2 or 3 of them before they are good.
