T61 turbo question
I have been playing with compressor maps lately and have come to the conclusion that a T61 covers the most area that I will be using for my 20-29psi street/strip monster(15psi on the street). My question is who makes a good manifold that will fit this turbo and how much bigger is it compaired to a t3/t04e 60-1. Maybe I am calculating wrong but from my calculations a 60-1 or 62-1 or a ts04 are all to small for optimal 15psi, 20psi, and 29spi operation compaired to the T-61. Heres what the specs for the calculations are: 111.43ci(1825.95cc's), 9kredline and 100%VE with portflow head. Every other figure is a constant I believe.

Re: T61 turbo question (88CRXHybrid)
left to right... 14b... stock 1st gen mitsu turbo... 60-1 compressor housing... t-series compressor housing... thr turbo's on the manifold and im tired and lazy to take it off now
there is a 6" ruler under the 60-1 housing in this picture... both housings are in the process of being polished so dont mind their appearance right now

Re: T61 turbo question (88CRXHybrid)
The T-61 has the sweetest compressor map I've ever seen but IMHO it's too large a turbo to use on the street. It has a 6 blade turbine which spools much slower than the 60-1 with it's 7 blade. The T-61 would be great if you left every stop sign at 6000 rpm. Don't be fooled by the vertical side of the compressor map but look closely at where you are at on the horizontal line. If you over turbo you will wind up on the wrong side of the surge line with bad results.
To answer your question, I think you will need a hand made manifold to fit the T-61 on your Monster. I would choose the 60-1 over the 62-1. Just an opinion

Re: T61 turbo question (SEFI8LOxCivic)
the t66 is the way to go for full race app. the t68 is just to damn large to spool correctly. with the t66 its make great top end power with a little bit of sacrafice down low.

Re: T61 turbo question (Tom)
i could put the t78 and 50 shot nos out of the whole and it would work like champion if i squeeze but its just not raelly practical you know. it will make gobs of top end pwr but not when you need it to gt out of the whole.

i agree with u completely... its even bigger than that turbo u just stated... i just wanna see it run and see IF it will run... i never thought a turbo that big would actually work... i guess now ill find out

Re: T61 turbo question (Tom)
I mean looks at stephs car prelude motor can push a t78 with no prbs. at high boost levels. He doesnt eve nrun a intercooler which contributes to more lag. It directly plumbed into the intake running methanol. Alot of us are allready converting for NHRA and NOPI rules I myself bought all the stuff just waiting for thid damn WIC race to get over to convert to full methanol setup. Double the injector size since methanol burns twice as much as std gas and you pretty much making 100-150 more hp

i thought he was running a t88... guess i was mistaken... lol... i wonder what the hell he has in that motor! with the amount of money he has avaliable to him for that car... he's prolly got some funky stuff in there... im surprised he hasnt gone with a dry sump system yet... bergonholtz is running one... im sure a couple people will pop up with them this year though

I am pretty sure drt is running a dry sump system with external oil pump

Re: T61 turbo question (b18bturbo)
well here are the result of the calculations I have made. Now how do I chart them on a graph in exel or something. Is there a place where I can download a dataset of the compressor map that is in excel format?
29psi
PR-2.97
9.5K-63.9
9K-60.56
7K-47.14
4.5K-30.3
20psi
PR-2.36
9.5K-50.78
9K-48.13
7K-37.5
4.5K-42.08
15psi
PR-2.02
9.5K-43.46
9K-41.2
7K-32.06
4.5K-20.6
They are all already converted to lbs/min. Do all these numbers look right?

Re: T61 turbo question (88CRXHybrid)
anyone else? From the compressor map the 60-1 seems to be in alot more ideal boost area's or 8-15psi not above that. How laggy would the T61 be? Would it be possible to fit one to a Maxrev manifold?

Re: T61 turbo question (88CRXHybrid)
if you want one of our manifolds with a flange for the t61 on it, we can do that. However i would much rather make you something a bit more exotic than the log style... the street manifold is not a race car manifold.
if youre running a t61, i hope its a race car. For race car apps we can make something from 321 stainless or convulted forged 304 8 gauge weldels, i am making one for my personal car right now and if it works out well i think i can make some similar equal length ones. Depending on how comfortable you are at metal working its not that hard to even make a manifold yourself.... not something to be afraid of at all.

Re: T61 turbo question (FFgeoff)
this will be a street/strip car. I dont know how to weld but I do know people who do. The hardest part would be getting all the pieces together. Where would I even get them? I also dont know enough gas flow thoery to know how to build one for the most efficiency within a certain RPM etc. LMK when you get that equal length manifold done.

Re: T61 turbo question (88CRXHybrid)
the compressor is the designation of the turbo... ex... a t-61 has the "61" wheel on it... t-66 has the "66" wheel on... etc... u can choose housings and exhaust wheel though... such as o, p or q... maybe one more... i dont remember

"n" trim... super rare! but it works amazingly well in twin turbo apps. i wont elaborate beyond that... if you catch my drift...
