No, it's not. You need to run a thermostat on any street car.</TD></TR></TABLE>

not to be a dick here, but I run a street car with no thermostat at all, beside the fact I got a cheap *** ebay half rad, and a big FMIC my car dont overheat at all...

I do need to change my radiator for a fluidyne though...and a Fal fan... but that's another money story...

Kranked.

the fan has NOTHING to do with temps while driving. when driving the radiator is cooled by the air coming through the front of the car. cooling fans are put in vehicles to take over at stops when there is no air flow from driving. if i cools down while sitting then the fan is doing its job so you can rule that out.

you have one of very few problems
1. you are not getting air flow across the radiator while driving
2. the radiator is insufficient is size/efficiency for your setup
3. you are not getting enough water flow

cures
1. i had this issue. my condenser was dirty, i.e. full of dirt etc. clean yours really well with water, compressed air whatever, backflow across the condenser you will be suprised what you find
2. you can only test this by replacing the radiator with a larger one. sucky option
3. doubt this is the prob with new water pump and t stat.

i would be willing to bet it is a mixture of 1 and 2

either you arent getting enough air to cool the coolant or you cant get enough coolant cool in that radiator.

make sure both the intercooler and condenser are nice and clean this made the biggest improvement on my car. boostin it Tx so i deal with high temperatures

hmmm.. thanks guys. gonna try some compressed air and a block off plate. only prob w/ block off plate tho, is that i have ac and the condensor is full size. i guess i'd rather have warmer a/c than a warmer engine. also, it this when i had a full size rad, but oh well... willing to try anything!

Thought I might throw my **** in here too. My hatch also started overheating when the temps got up there in the 90's, i leave the radiator cap off the radiator and run the motor from cold untill the fan kicks 2 times and make sure the radiator is full at all times, then slam the cap on. Also, I had my tuner go over the thing when it was hot out, sometimes the engine mgt makes adjustments depending upon load, adding fuel or taking away fuel. Mine was a little off and was making egt's a little high so thats another thing to look at.
upon further investigation i found that my car was just heat soaking b/c my ginourmous front mount blocked everything, i added some duct where my fog lights would normally go and routed them to the engine bay and radiator, and all is well now.
you can also try a different rad cap, and lower temp coolant stat.
hope you fix it, sucks having a winter only race car......

ALSO i did the jdm hood tilt but some washers on the hood brackets to raise the hood about an inch and the air hits the windshield and curves back into the engine bay, that helped alot with a noticeable intake air temps.

That's what you need to do, Try it with some Plywood or thicker cardboard first, I bet it will solve you issues!
