Default Stupid california Gas

I had to drive like 15 miles around town tonight just to find ONE gas station (Exxon) that had 92 octane gas. Everyone else only sells 91 octane now. It sucks. One Unocal 76 was even selling 88.5 octane gas as "Plus". Bah. Maybe I have figured out why my car has been acting different lately... I never even looked at the octane rating before, I always assumed I was using 92!

Damn! 88.5! All Premium here is 93 Octane. Thanksfully the prices are going down too. One gas station is at $.99 for regular and $1.19 for 93 octane.

I think I paid $1.79 for 92 octane. They wanted $1.84 for 91 octane at most of the Chevrons here.

Would 91 octane be okay if you were at 5.5 boost? Just curious. If I ever travel that way and am stuck with getting just 91 octane I would want to know how I could compensate without buying a boost additive.

never thought 1 octain would make a difference.
why dont you mix 1 gal of race car gas with your regular fule
i plain to mix 7 gals of 93 octain and 3 gals of 118 cotain and this will gve me around 100.
i can get the 118 for almost regular gas prices and i live in the boon-docks so no cat for me.
can you think of any problums with this.
i have a fully buit setup and all.

hey dustin, you live in folsom right? I think that the Arco on Folsom right near Blue Ravine has 92 octane for 1.74. At least it was 92 octane last week when I filled up.

damn you people in northern CA have cheap gas. Down here in SoCal the cheapest is $1.95 for some Chevron 92. Most everyone is switching to 91 though, soon they will all be 91.

It is a shame you guys dont have Sunoco Gold - its 94 and is about CAD .70 a litre or about USD 1.56 Gallon. Plus we dont use any additives like crap made from corn to add to our gas.
I used to live outside Chicago there was a gas city selling 113 octane at the pump wish i could fill up there all the time.

dustin... i have similar problems too as i am running 10:1 with turbo... nowadays, what i do is that, i will go get 100octane race gas from san jose, and then mix 4 gallons of 100 with 8 gallons of 91.... brings it up to 94.. call up 76... i think they have someone selling 100 octane somewhere around you..

Guys, if your cars are tuned so close to the edge that a 1-point drop in octane causes serious detonation, you have bigger problems than your gasoline supply. Back off your timing a degree or two or increase your boost retard; I bet you never notice the difference. Don't sweat 91 octane if you normally run 92 or 93. If your engine is tuned for 100 octane, I'd be concerned.

It is not necessarily about detonation, but my car definately feels different on lower octane fuel.

It is about fascist california and their stupid laws. Would you be OK with them dropping premium, say, two more octane points so the best we could get is 89 octane? When will it stop? It is not like we started with 94 octane or something, we only got 92.

76 at san jose (3310 Almedane Expressway: 1 (408) 978 5650) sells them at the pump, while GN RENTN at san carlos (1 800 942 1776) sells them by 50 gallon barrel.

i wish i can back off my timing... cam gears don't work for 97+ preludes unless i change my ecu..

You cannot move the distributor on 97+ preludes... it is fixed and the ignition is ECU controlled.

Got it, Dustin. Guess there's another point for having an adjustable boost retard so you don't have to stress about octane as much.

I think the 76 at Fair Oaks and Howe still has 92, but I'm not totally sure. The Chevron at Howe and 50 had 92, but that was like a week ago. I wouldn't run Arco gas...

WTF is wrong with arco gas. I used it with a freaking JRSC(which we all know isn't the most anti detonation device int he world) and it lways worked fine. Besides they seem to have gone to 91 octane as well.
