Stumped on what to do, got a gsr and ls motor....
Hey whats up, right now i have a LS engine with a built bottom end with je pistons eagle rods, etc., with a skunk2 manufold, 3 inch custom exhuast... but i have bought my friends totaled out gsr becuase i needed a lot of parts from the body of it.
So now i have the gsr motor too and im debating on putting it in my car and taking my built ls out. Right now i have 310cc injectors with a holley 255 fuel pump with the vortech fmu for fuel. I have a drag III kit at 8 lbs not even utalizing my built bottom but its running pretty strong.
I have a lot of little problems with the engine now though, Like my idle is steady at 1300 rpms with my iacv disconnected, when i connect it it goes from 1000-3000rpms and sounds even worse. It is not the IACV becuase i changed it 2 times and it did not fix the problem. I think it is the sensor on the throttle body and my tranny on my car now is on its way out along with the differential. (quik question too - will the gsr throttle body work on the ls skunk 2 manifold?)
A guy by me that has a garage works with his friends and he said 1500 to take out the motor out of the wrecked car and put my turbo kit on it and put it back into my car.
My main question here is should i keep my ls with my built bottom end, ready for more boost and get hondata and fix up every possible sensor to get it idleing right with no codes OR should i drop the stock gsr motor in there and turbo it? Im leaning on puttin the gsr in there only becuase i am at 8 lbs now and its running really strong. Earlier today i raced a brand new M3 and i had crazy wheel spin and i only lost by a car length. So i am thinking a gsr motor at similar pounds should be fairly quiker. For those of you with gsr turbos, should i ecspect the same speed with the gsr turbo at about 6 lbs or so?
If you guys were in my position what would u do, let me know, thanks!

Thats what i am leaning towards now too (gsr turbo). I am just thinking on reliability of the stock gsr block as opposed to built ls block. I could have the ls block at 15psi if keep it very shortly and be reliable with a standalone but i might be taking a chance having 7 lbs on stock gsr motor... Any other thoughts?

Okay, ls/vtec turbo was an option to me too but i keep hearing i will need to change my pistons again to take the gsr head without too much clearance. Also i was told to boost high i would need to get oil squirters (or whatever they are called) put in for it to be safe. Thats gettin pricey enough to just build the gsr block without the chance of a poor built ls/vtec that blows up. On top of it all i hear the gains wouldnt be much more than the gsr stock block turboed.
I am confused with all this though, becuase peoples personal preferences might differ. What would be the advantages or the ls/vtec turbo with the built bottom really be over the gsr block?

can't you put the whole ls rotating assembly in the gsr block and have the extra stroke of the ls, but in addition have the factory gsr block girdle to hold the bottom end together in the higher rpms?

dude use what you've already got. sell the gsr engine and fix the problems with the LS, get a Standalone and boost the **** out of it. You'll be way faster with the LS @ 14+psi than the gsr @7 psi and will be cheaper in the long run.
