Default Strange VAFC hack Fuel problems.. Input needed!

After searching hours on end trying to find a post that even resembles my problem, i have come up with nothing...

Im running the VAFC hack with DSM 450's (blue top) on a Turbo B16a2.

I noticed from other HT threads, when people were setting up the fuel settings, they were staying within the -37 to -28 correction area. My problem is, for it to run a little bit rich (crappy autometer air/fuel) at 4000 rpm im set to -14! and it goes down hill from there.

I was thinking the injectors might just be no good, when a friend of mine suggested the inline resistors might be put in backwards (if thats possible)

Any suggestion will be greatly apreciated!

thanks

hmmm.... I think -14 is wayy too rich. I also thought that resistors has no polarity but I somebody might have a better answer on that. Goodluck.

how much boost are you running? at -14%, the AFC isnt scaling the map sensor input enough to run more than 4psi or so.

Also, with the VAFC hack, running such low boost advances the holy hell out of your timing (take a look at a stock map and look in the lower left corner, this is where you are running with the VAFC hack and low boost)

something is wrong with your setup. maybe your air/fuel gauge is off. take out your plugs. they should be blacker than the ace of spades with so much fuel..

I running 6 lbs right now. how would you suggest i approach this problem? should i lean it out, pick up a better boost gauge and up the boost?

thanks for your help so far!

Something is wierd with your AFC or fuel setup.

Always run as much boost as the stock MAP sensor can recognize when using the AFC hack, to minimize ignition curve. 8-10 psi pls.

i was under the assumption that boost psi didnt matter! but thank you for bringing that up because now i know!

so you would suggest 8-10 lbs with the current set up?

and if you dont mind me asking, what would the results be of the current ignition curve?

i am still fairly new to this, so i apreciate all the input!

Alright guys, i have some new info to rack your brain with!

i pulled all the plugs and checked them, they are all a cinnimon/brown color. no sign of rich!? im not really sure what to do here, im wondering if its the actual fuel injectors that are doing it.... humm, and just to make sure, which wire do you put the inline resistor on? (color wise) and what would happen if it was hooked up backwards?

AND i was driving home from work today and my car started to bog crusing around 3000 rpm, i was watching my A/F gauge and i noticed it was bouncing straight from rich to lean (no stoich (spelling)) and when it would hit lean, my car would bog and jump back up!

thanks again for all the input guys!

if ur inline resistors are put in backwards the injector of that resistor is not going to work. On my last two setups this happened.

ok, so to make sure, the resistor goes on the black/yellow wire correct?

??? resistors do not have polarity

Resistors don't have polarity, but that's not what he means. He means that if you put it on the wrong wire, it won't work.

How's your fuel pump pressure and fuel filter? Sounds like it might be a supply problem.

I actually just bought an adjustable fuel pressure regulator with a pressure gauge tapped on it, i will change the fuel filter asap.

what kind of fuel pressure should i be looking for?

thanks again

That really depends on your setup (i.e. mods, injector size, afc settings, etc) but probably somewhere near your stock pressure around 38-45 psi. Do you still have the stock fuel pump? Any possible restrictions from the fuel lines, filter, regulator, etc? What model is your car?

ive checked all the fuel lines, none of them seem to be kinked or anything, i just bought a new fuel filter and will have the fuel rail in asap when i get it. the car is a 2000 Civic SI so the motor is oem.

and the fuel pump is still stock. but running 6 lbs even with the hack i figured i wouldnt need one yet..
