When boosting internally stock engines at similar boost levels.

B18b1 is the best. you can boost it higher on stock internals.

ls motor cuz of the low compression

b18b's are cheap as heck to,how long do they normally last when boosted?

LS motors are easier, not better. I mean for some people easier might mean the same thing as better...like for me I guess it does. If you've got money for good ignition and fuel control then you don't really need things to be easier.

The reason they 'build more boost' is because the head flows more poorly than the 16a, c1, c5 heads. They will make less power at the same pressure.

i think now a days either bseries motor can make pretty damn good gains with stock internals........ there are b18b's making 270-300whp stock internals... and same goes for the rest of the b-series..... it all depends more on ur setup around the motor....like the turbo, manifold, exhaust setup, manigment, tuning... and so on...

as far as reliablity b18b's and b20's have low comrpession... so u can boost em at say 6-10 psi and ot have to worry too much......but if u got a decent fuel setup any of the bseries can be equally reliable at these boost levels... just costs a little more to get there.

with that being said...b18b's are pretty cheep....b16's are pretty cheep as well..

ls seems "boost friendly" but performance wise think u get more hp per psi out of a higher compresion (b16's and b18c's)

the b18c1 is the best motor to boost if you are staying stock. you will be able to push that motor farther than any other b series motor.

I would def. agree. I made 420whp at 22psi on a stock internal gsr block, I dont think you would be able to push the ls/b20 bottoms that far due to the weaker rods.

Thicker headgasket, arp headstuds are the only mods to the block. Its just good tuning, nothing more. St00pid was running high 10's stock block gsr a few years before I was pushing 400whp level.

ok, I may quit hating on the C1 now. 420 is AWESOME on stock block. May be worth paying more for th engine and stuff. How long did it last on that kind of HP??

I ran the engine for around 3 months. I pulled the engine to install a built block. The built block had issues, the stock block has been in ever since. I am making 355whp @11psi, pump gas right now on the same block:

Over winter break I am going to turn it some more and see if I can hit 450whp on race gas.

Well I enjoy my LS I have as much torque as boosted-hybrid made but not the horspower. I like the LS becuase it's boost friendly. This is what gets me. Some people knock the LS becuase they say it's not better for boost, but when people turbo charge GSR and they want high boost, why do they go lower compression? That's why i think the ls is good. As long as the tuner is there wont be any problems but I just enjoy not having to worry about high compression. Or WHn i do bulid a block I can keep stoc compression and not worry, if not go a little higher with compression.

I lower the compression with the gsr block so I can run more boost on the street, and make more power on pump gas. Running more boost will help get the compressor into its efficiency range. Compression is about where you want to make the power on pump gas or race gas.

I agree on the gsr. The only reason I do not have one in my hatch is because of the cost. It definitely has the most potential over the b18b/b16a/b20. Higher compression, better flowing head, high redline, oil squirters, girdle, etc., you get the idea.

Yeah I know. I like the fact you can buy a hole LS motor for 4-6 hundred. I would take a B18C any day, I just like the LS becuase I like the Boost-friendliness

LOL I love it when people say honda's can only handle 7-8psi on stock internals, not even realizing that 7-8 on one turbo is alot differnt that 7-8 on another...Around here (where fast honda's are scarce) people think im on crack running 12-14psi on a stock b16a (3mm headgasket, arp's)...Anyways i would agree, best engine for boost, b18c1

The one that is tuned.

Just to clarify the hp on stock block numbers above, these motors generally use thick headgaskets to lower the compression. Don't think you'll get 400+ on a completely stock (gaskets, everything) motor on pump gas. Even if you can do it on race gas with any sort of reliability that would be worth talking about.
