stock ls with spray
ok guys, i have no nitrous experience, ive got one friend with a zex wet kit and one with a zex dry kit, im not really sure which one i want. Just so you know my setup its pretty mild (to say the least), 1992 hatch dx with ls swap, short ram intake, hp racing header. Most of my racing is 1/8 mile or light to light occasionally. Just wondering how an ls will hold up to a 55 shot and how long i can expect the engine to last, also what precautions can i take to make it last longer? I was thinking a step colder plugs and retarding the timing slightly, but is their anything else i could do to make it last? Also, what kind of times should i expect from an eg hatchback with ls swap on 55 shot? Also any advice on whether to get the wet or dry shot would be awesome, pricing is the same on both, i figured if i get the wet and want to go to the dry shot the only difference is the nozzle (i think so anway?!) any advive or personal experience woudl be awesome...

stay away from the spray. rebuild your engine. a fully built ls is capable of pulling 13's. and if that doesn't satisfy you throw in a turbo. NOS is for cheaters

^ Nice helpless answers. I myself am comtemplating the same thing...but i already have the zex wet kit. From what i have heard, it should take a 55 shot for quite a while. Its already low compression which is in your favor. Colder plugs would prolly help...have to run 93 octane and just dont be an idiot about it. Make sure your not running lean either.

Good call man, so how is he going to get 55hp by building it up with $500? I'll go ahead and answer it, he's not. Same with a turbo, you aren't going to get it done with $500.
N20 is great for people on a budget, or ones who don't want to spend more than their car is worth on engine parts.
After the previous idiotic replies, I'll just call this a bump for someone who knows what they're talking about.

nitrous is IMO the best bang for your buck. i recently removed the kit from my sohc vtec powered hatch and it was moving nice for what it was. made 168 hp and 167 tq with a 50 shot.
retard your timing 1 or 2 degress, make sure your engine is breathing well (intake, header, exhaust) get an adj FPR just incase you need to richen it or lean it out, and get a clutch, the stock one will die soon after if you dont.

nitrous is just like turbo... if you know how to manage it, your motor will survive. best bang for your buck if you want some ponies... squeeze some juice into it. i think 1 shot is equal = 1hp. so i'm guessing 50shot = 50hp. i was spray 75shots into my accord. automatic, intake, headers, exhaust... my transmission is going (120k) but my engine is fine.

thanks guys, ive already got i/h/e and a fpr and guage, safc and air fuel meter, buying adjustabel cam gears at hte moment, how long should i expect my b18 to last with a 55 shot done RIGHT?

i sprayed mine with 80 shot for 3 months (LS in eg hatch, gsr tranny)
had a inline fuel pump and fmu hooked up though...it was getting ready for turbo and decided to mess around. anything under 100shoot go dry...anything over 100shot go wet.

Re: (jarvis199)
Heres some tips.
- GET THE WET SYSTEM! if they are the same price definately the wet. the wet is more reliable. You dont have to worry about stressing the stock injectors like on a dry kit.
- Retard 1 degree if u run a 55 shot, 2 if you decide on a 75
- Get a step colder plugs
- Do a tune up to make sure your car is up to it (oil change, fuel filter change, new plugs, plug wires, dizzy cap and rotor, tranny fluid change ect..)
- Make sure you have a good clutch. If it slips a little on stock power get ready to upgrade. If its fairly new you should get some life out of it.
- get a n20 pressure guage. spray if the tank is at 900 - 1200 psi. Anything less you wont really feel it. Make sure the tank doesnt go above 1300psi.
- How are they activated? You may want to look into a WOT switch and or a window switch if they dont come with it.
- DO NOT SPRAY IN 1ST (unless you have massive traction which i doubt)
- DO NOT SPRAY IN 5TH (The gear is to weak and you will be at to low of an rpm)
- Spray at the appropriate rpms. remember n20 adds constant hp and linearly decreasing amounts of torque. If you have a 50shot at 1000rpm you have a 260tq increase. That WILL break something. Even a 50 shot at 2500rpm has a 105q increase which is probably double stock. Also very bad if you dont have a built block, rods and internals ect. Im not familiar with what engine you have but for example on my b16a2 i spray from 5500 - 7800 which is roughly a 50ft/lb torque increase which is safe.
- Never spray under 3000RPM's Make sure the engine is spinning nicely
- N20 is safer higher in the revs. You can go until about 200rpms before redline
- NEVER HIT THE REVLIMITER WHILE SPRAYING!!!! Thats why its good to have a window switch
If you just take minor precautions your car will last just as long as a car with out spray. do it right and dont spray every single day. Do it in moderation. I would recomend the 55 shot untill you really feel the need for more. Once you start going 75+ you stress the motor MUCH more then the 55. IMO stick with the 55 for reliability and 75 for more all out and more tuning. anymore questions just ask. hope i helped

Re: stock ls with spray (jarvis199)
I have a basically ur same set up. I have a LS with b16tranny. I spray a 75 shot on mine every once in a while and it's still fine. Just make sure you have enough fuel and spark. I have been spraying since summer and its still runnin strong. I knew a guy that sprayed a 100 shot on his ls and was fine forever. I guarentee your car will last a really long time with a 55 shot if you don't be stupid with it. Good Luck with the N20.

Re: stock ls with spray (jarvis199)
I was on the bottle for about 2 years. I used the ZEX dry kit, easiest thing I have installed on the car yet. I was spraying 75 shot the whole time. Get a bottle warmer and you will thank yourself , much harder hit. As long as the motor comp test good, I say spray away. Don't forget the fuel pump.

Re: stock ls with spray (97hb)
man, sounds like a few people in here have been whooped up on by a nitrous car and got a little jealous
to answer the original question, if your motor is in good running condition with a decent amount of mileage, it's going to last a while with such a small amount of nitrous; a year or two+. and it probably wont ever completely kick the bucket, but it'll start to lose compression, burn oil.......just wear out basically. it's really in your hands man, take all the appropriate cautions, and treat the motor the best you can.
some really good advice that many people dont seem to take, is to just follow the damn directions.

Get the wet kit, and a 55shot on an LS will last forever if its setup properly
