my current setup is a stock gsr with turbonetics t3/t4 turbo kit and 2mm thick head gasket...running 12 lbs boost...i jus got offered to trade my stock gsr longblock for a 9:1 comp. ls/vtec with eagle h-beam rods and cp pistons...

do u guys think its worth it...or if its a good trade???

worth it depends...do u trust the person....do u know if that motors is sound, assembled properly, not damaged, does it run,if so smoothly if yes to all then it is worth it

good trade no....cause a stock gsr or built gsr with original head and block to me is worth more than a ls vtec plus u know ur motors reliabilty

trust the person?...not one of the best people that i know...but i do know the motor runs well...was boosted before and he took the turbo off now he's looking for a stock motor rather than his low comp motor...i can test drive the car and i was gunna do a comp test on it 2morrow....

so its still not a good trade tho??? i was jus thinking about reliability down the road...idk how long the gsr is gunna last with the mileage of the motor...especially with the turbo...

do and leak down and compression test on your motor and do that same on the ls one , granted the ls will have lower comp but make sure they are all close to each other and then use that to help make your mind up a little bit

If the motor is good then it is a good trade, I mean since yours is stock and that one has rods and pistons, definately do a compression test and a leak down test. If everything is good I would definately trade...

If the built LS/VTEC was properly assembled, there is no question that its a good deal. I found myself in a similar situation a few years ago....my sig will tell you the outcome

you could still probably sell your stock gsr motor for more money than his built ls/vtec

i personally would keep the gsr.

i've heard 2 many horror stories about ls/vtec traded or purchased and the motor turns out tobe a bust

dont get me wrong they are great engines if properly assembled, bcuz 1 guy put 1 in my friend car didn't last a month it was torqe wrong with the wrong parts and missing parts all i could say is he didn't know what went where with the conversion part of it

but after we rebuilt it know its solid im just scared of ls/vtec engines purchased from unqualified or back yard mechanics

why dont u just keep the gsr and build it, this way its still reliable and u could always either use a ls crank or a stroker kit for the extra displacement that the ls/vtec will give u plus the gsr bottom is stronger than a ls bottom (girdle) all parts will be gsr so no mix macth parts except mayb 4 crank/rods
