Default Stock d16z6 boost build

Ok I am going to boost my d16z6. It's a healthy engine and has solid consistent compression across the board. I know sohc take 220 whp max daily. I want 200-205 whp. I am doing aftermaket oil pump, arp head studs, and aftermaket headgasket. Is there any other minor things I should do to the engine. This means no rods, head work, ect. And, is 205 whp with a GOOD tune reasonable?

205 Is more then reasonable.... i put 20k miles on a stock Z6 with headstuds and headgasket. Car was at 12.5 psi making good power. It was street tuned on Ectune so i dont have power numbers for you i would say very high 2's. The setup was simple. all 2.5 intercooler piping. Fmic. 650cc injectors. 3 bar. 2.5inch exhaust. 57 trim a/r .63. walbro 255. Stage 4 clutch. The motor was completely stock other then headgasket and headstuds. It had 180k on it when i boosted it and all i did was make sure the compression was good. The car was stupid fast for a daily driver it went 12.4 at 118 on a small radial spinning all of 1st 2nd 3rd the car would have hit high 11's on slicks... so i am a big fan of these builds. And trust me i beat the ***** off the car every chance i got and it took it like a champ. still got good mpg too haha

Wow hitting 11's on slicks. I have a gutted hf. And when it's all together I was just hoping to hit 13's haha. What is a good aftermarket headgasket? Also isn't a oil pump recommended? And what is a good name brand aftermarket oil pump?

ur fine with a z6 oil pump. i dont think z6 motors have oiling issues anyways because of their cranks

if you want you can port it a bit and shim it but i dont think thats needed on a stock turbo z6
shoot for 200hp

So replacing mine is not needed for my car. I wasn't sure since this is my dailey driver I need it to last. And 200 whp would be fine with me. No more the 205 whp. I hear after that is all question "when" not if your bottom end will go.

You will want to get a different head then that. I bought one of those engines to boost before I did my research. Your head is set up for e-vtec. Long story short your heads springs are to weak and won't hold boost. If you want more info google it. That's what I did. Now if you do a y8 head the best one. Or z6 head you should be ok. From what I understood.

you can boost it. I wouldnt worry anymore than i would worry about a d16z6/y8
you wont make nearly the amount of power out of it because the head doesnt flow nealry as good as a vtec head but over 200whp i wouldnt expect that from a y5

You wont need an aftermarket oil pump the stock one is fine. Get a cometic or a perma-torque from napa i have used them on boosted single cams before and they always work great, or oem replacement

A y5 is vtec thou..... Any way how much boost am I looking at to make 200 whp? I know it depends on turbo size. But let's say a common, normal size turbo. 8 psi sound about right?

That's why he's saying that. Since, it's a VTEC-E head and not a regular vtec head, the head flow is not the same and the springs are weaker.

yes. and the low cam is very weak. i think the crossover is at like 2800 or 3000 rpms. yes you can boost it but make sure to set the crossover low as it was designed to be. i almost want to say it runs the car as a 12 valve while not in vtec. not a bad idea to put a y8 head on there

ok, you dont need the aftermarket oil pump or aftermarket headgasket. arp headstuds and new oem gasket are likely all you need. id recommend torquing the arps in 3 steps. 20/40/70ft lbs.

your goals are reasonable. just make sure you spend the money on a good engine management and tune. it makes ALL the difference in how good/smooth the car runs

im making 270 on my d16y8 with 200k miles. daily driven shifting at 7500rpm on 14psi. the only problem was the head started to lift so we did a oem gasket studs and a deck no issues now.

you can boost it with good results. And it is made from the same casting as a y8. Just has different cam and roller rockers. My y5 just dynoed 172whp 163wtq at 6psi with a boost leak. Baseline pulls. Will be pushing past 200whp soon as i get the new clutch in the car. and some more boost and tuning!! Tuned by me with crome pro 11.5afr.

word i was thinking d16y7 non vtec
all are similar but very slight head flow difference from y8 of course they can make just as much power
