Default SSAUTOCHROME AGAIN

Reading the last post on ssautochrome, what REALLY IS the problem with their manifolds?? I hear that people say they need bracing (whatever that is) and other things.. can someone tell me what the real deal is?

apparently the welds tend to crack , wastegate placement is shitty, and needs to be braced up..im going by hear say tho so dont quote me.

you really don't know what that means? well they need extra "support" to keep them from cracking. they don't have a very good design, hence, "you get what you pay for." i've read about a few people who have added extra support "bracing" to their SS Autochrome manifolds and they have held up fine, now as far as being tested and proven to provide max. hp, i have yet to read a topic on that

on a side note, they all come braced now. I don't know if anyone has bothered to review the new, "improved" version. If you were going to buy it, i'd do my best to brace the turbo itself to somthing... so the minimum weight possible is on the mani. When it's in one peice, though, it isn't all too bad. ...wastegate plcmnt could be better... but, cheeeeap!

Good luck.

unless you want boost creep above 25psi then this aint for you.

plus those "braces" they put on fall off

I owned one big waste unless you want to modify wastegate placement and bracing but then piping is still too thin and can crack.

okay, until one of you guys actually use one, dont bash on it. I am using one of their manifolds and it works great, no boost creep, no cracking, just brace it, and it will be fine. Everybody likes to talk **** because they are so cheap, but my friend had a drag manifold crack IN HALF on his setup and he doesnt even drive his car hard. so dont hate.

i second this. I have noticed that their manifolds arent consistent, some are bad and some are pretty good. I've been running mine for almost 5 months with no problems. as far as creeping goes, it does creep a pound or two sometimes, but never more. mine came braced and hasnt cracked. I've dynoed my car and have made good power with this manifold and i'll continue to use it untill it creates a problem.

i had one of these.. it was braced.. not well though. The collector was crap. The weld they do on the outside looks good, but take a look inside, you'll see..

I'm sure they are great, but honost to god truth is.. You get what you pay for.

That sucks. I have seen the new ones and the quality looks good to me. It looks like they learned from the first ones they made and corrected their mistakes, but I have no first hand experience with them.

Bracing the manifold will just put stress on another area of the manifold which is just as thin or cheaply welded. Ive seen many braced ones still crack, Bracing it doesn't do much. The key is supporting the weight of the turbo/wastegate. If you can fab brackets that hold the turbo up (instead of having it hanging off the manifold), the manifold won't crack. I have an SSautochrome and can't complain about my numbers.

bracing is like a bandaid made out of straw. what are the ssautochrome manifolds, 300 bucks? For that you could just get a log manifold and spare yourself the future headaches of cracking and the risks involved of maybe losing your wastegate on the freeway etc... if you have to do it cheap, just get something reliable that gets the job done. Odds are if you only are spending a few hundred bucks on a manifold you aren't going for 400 or 500whp anyway, and thus attempting to put an equal length in your car isn't going to do much for spool or flow in such a power range. 300 bucks is close to buying a used inline pro or a sfp which are way better options.

I agree...For the average simple minded person, stick with a log manifold and call it a day. If you have some mechanical ability its pretty simple and cheap to design a few brackets to support the turbo's weight....Problem solved.

They are 300 on their website but go for way less on ebay. The D series are whored out for 150 on ebay pretty heavily and can be easily had at that price, the Bs go for about 200.

200 dollars will easily buy a standard tig welded 304 log manifold from a variety of companies...
